World Gen has entered a martial trace! v40.01
« on: July 07, 2014, 11:58:56 pm »

What the heck happened? I went from going and getting a sandwich during world generation to running 1000 years of history in less than a minute.

THIS IS FANTASTIC.

Anyone else getting completely awesome world generation speeds?

Yep, seems astonishingly fast to me, compared to 34.11.  8)

I had a 1050-year world just now in less than 5 minutes, definitely an improvement over 34.11. We'll see how the frame rates turn out, though.

I'm also having a problem in which civilizations are expanding about a million times more aggressively than usual. Please see below for an example.

Was this a "standard" or advanced world gen? I ran an advanced world gen with my usual settings and it seemed to run about the usual amount of time. I took it to year 250ish.

Advanced for me. I usually mess with minerals and volcanism.

Mine was also advanced. It was a medium world with high volcanism, high savagery and greatly increased mega beast and titans etc. It definitely sounds like you may have stumbled on some sort of bug particularly with the crazy fast civ. expansions.

It looks less like expansion 'proper' (with new major cities/towns/forts/whatever,) than just mass expansion of certain settlements' hinterlands. Rapid expansion is a good thing though, means that civs are thriving, and increases the likelihood of conflict for use to enjoy in fort/adventure mode.

Now that looks like a bug (though lowering the amount of secrets available resulted in this not happening for me.)

I genned a 500 year world in a medium region in about 8 minutes, which is a little faster than normal for me. I've also noticed more sprawl, mostly from the dwarves' hill sites.

Sorry to go off topic here, but I note you're using a graphical tileset. Did you install it normally, and have you noticed any irregularities? How do tree canopies display?

Tree Canopies are..... difficult. They show as open space. But yea, we aren't talking about sprawl so much as absurd consolidation. In the screenshot above, the dwarves founded something like 150 major sites in 100 years, whereas the goblins have spread along the entire map from north to south with about as many.

EDIT: I've found that limiting site numbers will fix most of the bugs seen here. I have mine set at 600, and it creates smaller, tighter knit nations.

World gen goes at the normal crawl with advanced parameters for me. The dwarves and elves really like to pack their settlements together.

On a side note, this is the first time I've managed to get an Age of Fairy Tales.

Well, I managed to get a small world into the Age of Creviceshafts on accident while I was watching the computer. The entire game seems to run waaay faster now, too, though the world gen is the most dramatic increase for me.
