IIRC he even said FPS will be worse because the calendar is not yet optimized.
He said that before release?

In the devlog on the day of the release, second bullet point.

As for the whole tree thing, my dwarves can climb up and down walls and trees like monkeys, they just stay there till they starve. I wish they'd fall out so I could at least have a chance to recover them.

I want to tell you they were bad men, cephalo.  I want to tell you that with a better overseer the Fortress never would've gotten so bad someone would get offed in a pointless fisticuffs.
But the sad truth charlie?
It was inevitable.

Chop the tree down. Problem solved/inevitability expedited.

Whereas I've never seen a dwarf climb anything yet, in 40.x.

But I always have a meeting place, and it's either the wagon at embark time, or common meeting area underground.  Perhaps it's the "I don't have anywhere to go" mode that lets them climb arbitrary things?

I have had haulers become horrified at corpses/gore/rot/bones though.  I put my garbage dump in a corner behind a door, though, so it's not a big deal.

Necro sieges are a pain when a bowellf and bowhuman are camping next to each other and won't move.

EDIT: Glad pulping was added; no need to worry about undead giant sponges to ruin your day.
Forget I said that.

Just got this message (first time, haven't seen it in any 40.x fort yet)

Rigoth Fishanvils, being the rightful heir, has inherited the position of baron of the Channels of Plaiting.

It appeared in the same way (and was the same color, pink!) as the new vile force of darkness message.

Also tested serrated iron discs on a vile force of darkness, same issue as enormous iron corkscrews.  The traps miss the goblins unless they stop on them, and when the squad leader dies, the squad halts in place, and swap positions with each other every 11 ticks.
This trap & leader behavior is MUCH WORSE than 34.11.

Took f***ing ever but finaly one of the 7 only dwarfs of Squashedcrystal became the king of The Worshipful Standards. By early spring of the second year of the fort.

EDIT: Seems like zombies enter the map like migrants until the Trader who is on the units screen in 34. came and stayed there till he moved. Now there are 2 bowmen and a crossbowman on the map due to a kea man who flew close to the 2 bowmen.

I thought nobility was a vile force of darkness. If traps are useless on them then we are all doomed...oh your talking about goblins. :D

I've also noticed, the population cap is ignored, and the birth restrictions are also ignore (more) than they were in 34.11.

In particular, I've got a pop cap of 21, and my fort went to 56, with only three children included in that number.  Two of those children were born in the fort.  Regular visits from the outpost liaison, so not sure what the deal is with this new (buggy?) behavior.

Finally, after the "inherited the position" I got a king assigned and subsequently a mayor.  So there's some real strangeness with noble assignments going on that doesn't make a lot of sense. (especially given there's a living dwarven civ out there)

I've got a GCS climbing on the wall in the caverns. It is terrifying.

In adventure mode, I keep running through tunnels full of large herds of cats and livestock. It's an interesting mental image.

Didn't think zombies had the brain power to climb trees let alone shoot a bow or crossbow.

Reclaimed a worldgen fort. Find it already discovered the magma sea. The magma forge floor is leaking... I'll have to build a new forge array.

Edit: I don't remember if this was in 0.34 but the stockpile toggle for "take from anywhere/links only" is a great help.
