Let's Play: Roguelikes!
« on: July 06, 2014, 07:17:12 pm »

I'm here today to start a series of Let's Plays of roguelikes. I will play any roguelike as long as it's free and runs on: mac, DOS or can easily be run through wineskin. The way this will work is that I will play a roguelike up until an important decision and then there will be a vote of some kind to decide what I do next (or the first choice posted, whatever comes first). Roguelikes will be chosen from suggestions.

To start off the first roguelike to be played is: Nethack!
And the first decision is what class and race should I play?

Play a tourist.
Why would you do this to me?!  ;)
I've never played a tourist so it might take a few tries until I find something noteworthy if that's okay.

Tourists are very hit-and-run style characters at the start.  They start with some darts and a camera.  Also they have a t-shirt which is hard to find but can also be enchanted several times.  Don't expect much along the way of spellcasting.  Their unique artifact is probably the most powerful in the game, though.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.
