i really hate it when a dwarf dies because others are drinking from a barrel, maybe you could make cups that a dwarf would put a unit of drink into it and drink, meaning it would be easier to hydrate a fort

I think it's planned eventually. It's one of those things people complain about and make fun of. The primary benefit would be the good thought that comes from drinking out of a high quality mug/goblet.

That and doing proper taverns/inns, I suppose, with the option to get into more detail about drinks and drinking utensils.
