They may have been symbiotes, but it was if anything a parasitic relationship. No mutually beneficial relationship is going to cause one participant to spend most of their time in self-harm and screaming, y'know?

Also, it strikes me as unlikely that Jesus would force the pigs to drown themselves. Possible, but unlikely.

Given the demons caused mental torment, no doubt they did the same to the pigs. Probably killed themselves to get rid of them.

Well, that particular group of demons were allowing their home to break free of any bindings, and insofar as the text mentions, there is no indication it wasn't a willing contract. That sounds to me like both a good thing and not the type of demon that forces inhabitance -- hell, even when they left it wasn't them that did it, but christ that let them into the pigs. Apparently they couldn't go without permission.

As for the self-harm and screaming, well, apparently the guy was at it for a while. I'm not one to support cutting, and a noise disturbance et al, but apparently the fellow was considerate enough to move pretty far away from people before starting his racket, despite people trying to tie the guy in chains, and wanted to do so badly enough he was willing to put his body on timeshare to make it happen. Doesn't quite sound like the demons were the one that caused the mental torment -- enabled it, maybe, but not caused.

I have to say, though, I love the propaganda-like makeup this is taking. Both sides trying to paint the other in the worst possible light, and overtly put words in the quoted text's mouth to do so. Mind you, you two are reading a lot more into the nature of the demon than the anti-cat side, but well, that's the sort of mental gymnastics that occurs when you're trying to excuse the death of a couple thousand sentients.

Heh, pretty much. It's a part of the reason I normally try to stay out of debates unless they're pretty obviously fairly light-hearted.

Oh, I'm not excusing the deaths at all. That's terrible. I'm saying Jesus wouldn't do the same to Catpeople. Either Demons are misunderstood little bundles of joy, or they really did do harm. Either way, Jesus believed they were doing harm. As long as the Catpeople "Came in peace" as it were, Jesus wouldn't decide in a fit of xenophobic rage to kill them.

Eh, I wouldn't be surprised if he did, but maybe not. I don't see him trying to interfere if everyone else did, though. I'd need more indication he cared about intelligent non-humans before I made that conclusion -- and I'm not really seeing that. Like I said, his actions toward those demons really didn't seem to indicate any love-thy-neighbor ethos extended to the xeno.

The demons were seen as the universal "bad guys." Whether or not they were is moot...he believed they were, and there's certainly enough evidence to support that in most instances they were.

There is no indication of him caring about intelligent non humans because there were none. What there was to be xenophobic about was skin colour, religion and class/social standing.

Jesus promoted understanding on all these levels. I fail to see why this would not also extend to Cat-kind :P

How about Jesus' views on slavery? That could lead to some insights re: Willingness to let bad things happen to innocents.

Contemplation on how willing hypothetical individuals of ostensible note would be re: purging the xeno, mostly.

E: Forum ate half my message >_<
There is no indication of him caring about intelligent non humans because there were none.
This strictly is because the encounters with the cat people were never put to text.
Every encounter with non-humans either subservient or hostile, absolutely no mention of anything else. Amazing how much that parallels history scrubbing tactics used in other places :P

Catpeople = Demons

Swing away

He may be on to something here. The catpeople are far more powerful than us physically, they've got psychic powers we can only dream of in the form of their shared consciousness, and they are absolutely hostile to us and our way of life.

It's also worth mentioning that the demons got exactly what they asked for.

Aye, and they possess animals and are the sworn enemy of our lord and saviour Quaritch Maximus Aurelius I.
