Someone recreated Groverhaus in Cities:Skylines. It's a mod so people can just add that to their cities. It's a very accurate and detailed model as well.

I saw an article about how civilization may reduce their demand for oil collectively by the ~3M barrels of oil per day to offset the supply lost due to Russia.

One of the proposals was "reduce speed limits by 6 mph" - and I just laugh.

Where I live, people drive 80 MPH on a 70 MPH road for what are on average 30 mile commutes - requiring 30% more energy for what is at best 3 minutes shorter travel time (all else equal).

People love to complain about high gas prices, but they don't do something as simple as merely slowing down and not even really costing any time.

I'd guess that the average person doesn't have much of an intuitive understanding of the relationship between speed and fuel efficiency and thus just default to going as fast as possible because faster = better is a simple idea to follow.

Eh, but I have to be places ON TIME.  So I have to DRIVE FAST or I'm LATE.
But yeah, I've sorta gotten into the habit of driving home slightly slower than the maximum speed, just because its a smoother more enjoyable ride.
It pisses off the people behind me, I assure you.

I get what you’re saying, but that time saving adds up.

When I still cared about it I used to stay at work an extra 7 minutes in order to get a bonus at the end of the year for having worked a certain number of hours. It basically worked out as an extra hour a week (the earliest I could punch in was 5 minutes prior to my scheduled start time, so 12 minutes per day * 5 days per week = 60 minutes) which meant I could also take extra time off later in the year if I happened to work beyond that 7 minutes, which I frequently did, though that tended to amount to taking my time cleaning up and then going for a pee as the bathrooms were conveniently far away from the punch clock.

As it pertains to using extra gas though, maybe not worth the extra pennies that get spent, but to each their own I guess *shrug*

With the knowledge of global warming and oil prices soon starting to cause global famine, driving any faster than that, or pushing past the allowed speed limit should be reconsidered from being a traffic violation to a crime against humanity.

This didn't happen today. I got the idea of sharing this here only just now. But I guess it doesn't matters.

So there was this guy I know, and we were talking. Actually, he was venting to me about wanting to be more attractive to girls, and I was listening. Or was supposed to. He said some more things, but I fazed out.

And during that time, I was pondering on how handsome he was and how charismatic he was while talking like that.

Then I heard a loud truck passing by, and abruptly came back to my senses, the whole damned irony hitting me a split second later. Then I realised I had been staring at his face for 30 seconds with a slight, shit-eating smirk. He wasn't directly looking at me though, so it's fine.

"...Girls are picky you know, you get it. Right?"

"Yes, yes I do."
