Superhero and supervillian tabletop(?)-esque game. Two characters (the narrator and a buddy) are people with the power of invention and no superpower but a whole lot of talent for doing mundane crimes. The other three characters are extremely powerful, to the point where, in a direct confrontation, the other three would utterly crush the first two.
As the game goes on, the superheroes start doing things like brutalizing opponents, stealing things from the city that they're supposed to protect because it's the right thing to do, and eventually doing things like tossing out racial slurs when they made taunts (which blurred the line between In-Character and Out-Of-Character).
Eventually, there's a violent confrontation between the three and the two, and while the narrator (who's the inventor guy) is brutally killed, the three superheroes begin to play with his corpse. Eventually the "heroes" stop, but the normal extremely talented ordinary criminal is able to slip away and take the corpse of the inventor with him (resurrection is a thing, so the normal talented guy puts the inventor's brain in one of his own exoskeleton inventions simlar to the one the inventor had been using at the time of his death).
After this, the talented ordinary criminal lays low for a while. Very low. He's always borrowing things from the inventor and the like since the two are pals. The three superheroes continue their spree of doing bad things to people who by comparison don't look too bad. Life goes on for a while.
Then, one day, during a baseball game, the half-time play stops. The screen turns on. In front of all the fans, footage of one of the heroes doing bad things is being streamed. Funnily enough, the talented ordinary ciminal put so many points into stealth he could basically become a non-entity if he so wished. He used this extreme level of stealth skill to record evidence of the heroes without their knowledge.
The recording ends by presenting an image of that hero with words saying that that hero is no better than the criminals.
Uproar ensues.
Law enforcement visit the house of that hero, and wind up shooting the hero when the hero makes a gesture that would've activated a weapon.
Then, later on, the remaining two heroes, possessing such a lust for revenge (WHO?), do their best to take down the two villians.
One find some kind of base, only, they were constantly getting hit by a psychic energy blast from a gadget the inventor made and gave to the ordinary talented criminal.
Now, that hero's ability involved what was basically adaptation against damage. Now, when the hero attempted to adapt against the psychic damage.... the adaptation removed his brain. The ordinary crim deposited the brainless guy in front of a hospital for the staff to take care of.
And, finally, the final hero declared Marital Law. Chaos ensues, but the criminal is never spotted.
Until the lair is found. A lair that's relatively ordinary save for the video cameras everywhere broadcasting to locations all across the city.
Now, once villian and "hero" meet face-to-face, the ordinary hyper-talented criminal (that's the villian) offers the racist merciless non-hero (that's the "hero") a deal. The villian is standing on a pressure plate and holding a trigger mechanism. He's attached bombs to citizens everywhere and both the pressure plate and the trigger mechanism will cause them to activate, one by one, until everyone in the city is dead.
Either the villian does that, or the "hero" drinks a tank full of toxin.
The "hero", naturally, kills the villian by punching him so hard his fist goes through to the other side. Nothing happens. As he slowly dies from the horrific disembowlment/impalement the "hero" dealt him, the villian explains that, since the hero essentially chose to save himself and not the city, the fact the bombs didn't really exist didn't matter.
What did matter, was that the "hero" showed who he really was - willing to sacrifice the city to save himself.
The villian dies. The Justice League equivalent (essentially the GM, who's been getting tired of the three's shit) shows up and asks the "hero" why he did what he did, and when the "hero" explains that the villian could've detonated the bombs anyway, the League decides to test the toxin to see if the "hero" wouldn't have survived it.
It was lemonade. The "hero" didn't bother to perception check it.
The "hero" tries to argue again, but the Justice League attacked him and the "hero" lost.
The "hero" is now in prison with his powers removed 'cause he's on a superdense giant that makes him incredibly weak, and has no chance of ever getting out in any capacity.
The game ended. The city's now without its heroes, and the old heroes (the final "hero" in particular) have been completely disavowed. The inventor's in prison, but that's all right since, ultimately, the true villians were stopped.
And the, I repeat, ordinary, criminal mastermind, managed to take down three heroes with a little help from a friend.
