to be fair, part of that is probably due to the increasing population, I do wonder how such a thing would look if adjusted for the much greater population

I'm wondering how much of that is their algorithm, and how much is human input? They don't seem to have their generator algorithm available for you to play with, so I'm guessing quite a bit of that is human-guided, e.g. they're cherry-picking out the best little bits then gluing them together manually.
