Evil implies irredeemable. Satan, perhaps, is evil (depending on your reading of scripture). People are sinful, whether through improper treatment of slaves, being homosexual, or any of the venial/mortal sins.

This is a meaningful distinction because, whatever your other denomination, you're almost obliged to view Christ as the redeemer. He died for our sins; not our evil. Sins can be redeemed.

Which is why confession is so big in Catholicism. One must know what's sinful before one can repent, and be redeemed.

Anyhoo. I went for coffee with someone I kinda know from my course. He seems to assume I'm upper middle class or something (I ain't, lol. He deffo is though). Kept talking about the plight of the middle classes, stuff about buying houses and cars, and how the distinction between middle class and 'billionaire' is a question of quantity, not quality. Then he suggested that farms should be bought up by government and farmers replaced by ecologists.

The humour here being his misapprehension concerning my social status, and that I managed to keep him talking. Oh, also that my family is all farmers.

Well, at least one notable one in England was done with Kentish ragstone 

And yep, medieval literary history. The problem with becoming so specialised is a great lacking in other areas. My medieval history education doesn't cover electrical engineering for some reason
