While I was recently pondering not looking at the lower boards any more, this topic, I think, should be visited by my. Why, you ask? Well, my fellows, I'm probably somewhat one-of-a-kind here being not only Christian, but old school Vatican-obeying Nazi Roman Catholic. This one strike-through word should tell you all about what I think of Jack Chick, shouldn't it? But I'm rather well-versed in the information about my religion and I'm interested in answering question and maybe explaining some facts about Catholicism. Maybe even numerous facts.
For example, the whole sin discussion that was going on before seems to be from positions a little different than Catholic ones, so I will go ahead and explain how we see it (including homosexuality).
As has been stated before, and is true, the sin itself is acting against the will of God; generally speaking, it is an analogy to committing a crime. There are laws, and breaking them is a sin, just like breaking state laws is a crime. But this is 'technical' definition. The spiritual definition is that sin is weakening or severing your bond with God.
Sins, in general, are of two types: 'light' and 'heavy', with proper nomenclature being not that easy to look up (I'm not native English speaker), but in general I will use terms 'venial' for 'light' and 'mortal' for 'heavy' one, as those seem to be the consensus. Just don't cite me on that before checking for yourself.
For a sin to be mortal, it needs to satisfy three criteria:
1) It must be in a serious matter;
2) It must be committed with full knowledge;
3) It must be committed consensually.
This means that sins that are light of matter, committed without full knowledge and/or not wholly consensually are venial.
Mortal sins represent complete severing your bond with God; they need to be confessed during sacrament of penance, and the proper atonement is required. Venial sins may, but do not have to, be confessed, as they are generally let go at the beginning of the Holy Mass, where there is a special part just for the purpose of letting venial sins go.
Sin can be committed in four ways:
1) by speech,
2) by thought,
3) by act,
4) by lack of act.
Thought and speech sins are usually (but not always) venial, while sins committed by acting or not acting are more often mortal. Lack of act sins can be, for example, not helping a person who is in mortal danger, depending on the risks that would be involved for the person not helping.
Due to the nature of God's laws there is no exhaustive list of sins that one is able to commit; it is actually changing with the world, as some activities that appear are sinful, because they violate one of the laws.
Aaaaand here we come to the topic of homosexuality.
The trick here is: God has created sexuality as a way to both help humanity grow and to help strengthen the bond between husband and wife. Thus, sexual acts are considered good when done between husband and wife, and generally in a way that could lead to conception of a child. Thus, homosexual acts are sinful because they are neither; not only two men/two women cannot be husband and a wife, they also cannot go about sex in any way that could lead to conception. Also, while homosexual acts are sinful, being homosexual/bisexual is not, in itself, a sin; it just calls for the sexual abstinence, like other non-ordered sexual urges (which I will not enumerate here unless asked for, but you can surely come up with an idea or two).
Also, nuclear reaction being powered by Jesus sound badass. But I can not see any logic that would lead to a conclusion of them being satanic in nature?
