When the wounded man arrived at the gate, it was of little surprise to me he came with news of yet more banditry in the region.  Still, that a band would dare raid a village at least partially under the guardianship of my great-grandfather was no less than a direct affront against my family and the people we protect.  Daring, perhaps, but ultimately foolish in the extreme.

We rode out for the village posthaste, though the trip took several days.  Quite impressive, really, that their rider had even made it as far as he did before collapsing.  But the people of this land are a sturdy lot, hardened by war and winter, so perhaps it is not so strange as it seems.  No matter.  Their trials have also made them understandably paranoid, but they still remember their friends and allies once reminded.  The faith in my family is very well placed—few indeed can claim to hold one of the great living heroes of this age and one now past!—and I shall do my utmost to justify it.

To that end, the rest of the Guard and I worked to fend off a bandit raid coincidentally striking against the town not long after, no doubt hoping to steal what little food and valuables they had left.  It was rather simple; the band of raiders seemed unprepared for any significant resistance and fell quickly once we engaged.  We have one of them tied up as I write this, and I intend to interrogate him within the hour should no other business intrude.

That said, I am becoming increasingly suspicious of our resident gnomish spellcaster.  Her disrespect for those born into nobility and royalty only grows more grating with every passing day, and I fear she may choose to act on her mindless hatred at some point in the future, with no regard to the mission of our unit.  Still, I believe the rest of the Guard is willing and capable of stopping her, should that ever prove the case.

More worrisome is that sword of hers.  I ill trust artifacts which claim names of their own will at the best of times, and I fear that should the blade have any evil intent, or should it simply feed the desires of the wielder, than leaving it in the possession of a woman like her is unacceptable, even if she lacks the skill to properly hold it.  If nothing else, I have noticed her stumbling and muttering strangely as she carries the weapon and places yet more gems within it, and that alone is enough to give alarm.

I will confer with the others before I attempt to take it from her, but I do believe it must be done.

I remembered my ink pot! I need to practice my map making if I'm going to help Kem scout around in the future, like I promised. I haven't gotten a chance to wander off and explore yet though, so I drew a picture of the battle at the village.

Just to let you know, I will be about half an hour to an hour late tomorrow.  And for all foreseeable Tuesdays in the future, at least until Christmas.  Woo, school.

Perhaps it was not my best idea to attempt to hold the sword--Cleynos?--without taking precautions.

The mad, unintelligible babbling has been harrying my thoughts.  The memories of darkness overtaking me--not me, truly, that is how I feel--have haunted my dreams this past night.  But perhaps I have focused too much on it, since the events of yesterday.

There are more important things to focus on, after all.

The way in which we deal with the stones is, while likely not currently pressing, certainly of great concern.  Particularly if it is somehow linked to the appearance of the tower and the abandoned villages to the west, unlikely as that is.  For now, I do not really think the two issues are linked, though I've been told we can't yet rule it out.  After all, how many strange, arcane issues can pop up at one time?

Probably a lot, really.

I've determined that we should focus on the situations with the disappearing villagers and on the general bandit--or-goblin-hunting duties for the time being.  The normal duties of the Red Guard take priority, and whether connected to the stones or not, disappearing townsfolk is not something we can ignore.  At least we appear to have the assistance of the Order of the Sacred Page, now, though I doubt we'll be able to make use of it for some time.

Still... I must admit a great curiosity for the gems.  I've been thinking about them much between the dreams of shadow, and...  I'm not sure if they're affecting my mind or not, but I like them.  They seem so useful, so fascinating, and so good if they do not fall into the wrong hands!  Perhaps that is why Kem has become so interested in the sword, if she avoided the worst of its effects.  I can't say I blame her.

Writing of Kem, she has become much less... abrasive, over the past few days.  Perhaps because I have taken the same stance to the stones as she, or perhaps because I am assisting her with her swordsmanship.  Perhaps both.  It's obvious she has some talent for the blade, even if she has never made use of it and lacks the size and strength necessary to wield typical arms.  With a bit of training, though, I think she will be able to overcome those difficulties.  And I think I'll have to worry far less about her attempting to stab me in the back, thankfully.

I will also be at the least, a half-hour late, and will be able to continue no later than 7:00 GMT-8(aka I think about 10:00 eastern coastal time). School, Cross-Country, and Parents demanding Scheduled Family Dinners(which are probably a good idea, all in all) conspire against me.

Whelp. This is my first entry. So...well, I'm not sure whether I should start way back or anything. Also, if I catch anyone reading this, they will pay severely.

That means shut the book, asshole.

Argh, anyway. Well...eh, this is just for me, so whatever. The resident princess had a little freak-out when she held the Sword. Threw it across the room. But maybe it knocked some sense into her. Or at least knocked her down a peg. She hasn't been bitching at me or making her little 'courtly' snipes lately, but that just might be because I managed to fuck up when asking the knight (I think his name's Densel?) for help, and she heard. Probably gloating and smug behind that perfect little mask of hers. Whatever. She's been teaching me how to use a sword, so that's good, at least, and I think I've been getting a little stronger. Not enough to use the Sword, but enough that if I have to fight, maybe I won't drop it on my foot. Mostly I've been doing that, and trying to figure out how the sword and the other stuff we grabbed works. I think I mostly figured it out; I've always been good with magic stuff.

But, that's pretty much all I've been doing. Ugh, it's boring here. I've never been good at just sitting around, and now that all the finances are finally in order(for the moment, at least, I'm writing them down in the front of this journal), there's nothing to do. The Princess and Knighty have been taking care of all the stuff that needs to be done to fix up the fort, before I get around to it. I guess being raised by nobles is good for something beyond not understanding the streets. But, half of it's the anticipation. We're gonna be looking out for these gems now, and most of the group's with me about collecting them. So I should be able to gather them all. And the best part is; they're not gonna make me psycho! I don't think. If they are, it's slow enough I don't think I can really care.

On the bright side, I did manage to convince the Order of the Holy Scroll or whatever to help us fix up the fort, so the Red Guard should be ready to go soon enough. Need some more cloaks. I think the Princess already took care of that though.

I should probably get around to using their whole names at some point. Not much, though. Just need to think of good nicknames for the rest...maybe Redhead for the flippy one.

Ah, turns out I WON'T be late tonight, since introductory stuff and out early.  Probably still will be other weeks, though.

It's a lab that's supposed to run 1:20 - 6:20 Central, so there'll be some times when I manage to get done with the procedure early and get out in time for the game.

Well, my schedule is currently in flux, and very open at the moment. If we need to move the game (with the caveat that I may have to move it again later whe I get back to work), there should be little problem.

Cool. Starting a half hour to 45 minutes later would be nice, personally, don't know about everyone else(especially considering I'm on PST, so it starts at 4:00 for me).

Still need to talk to parents about family dinners and DnD nights.

EDIT: Should be fine, should be able to play until 7:30 or 8:00 my time most nights, so 3-3.5 hours should be enough, and if the sessions go longer, we'll make do, I think.
