Naw basically the RCMP are the Federal police and police the country.

Shouldn't that have counted as a confession though?  How come the RCMP haven't stepped in?

Do they normally deal with local crimes that can easily be dealt with by the local police?

Not sure.  I thought RCMP acts as the police in most cities?  I know where I live we have our own police force, but I wasn't sure that was the same everywhere in Canada.

Most cities have a provincial police force eg. in Ontario we have the OPP. A few cities pay for their own police forces, but they're pretty rare from what I can tell. The RCMP basically cover the jobs the FBI would get otherwise plus a few extra functions.

A major city like Toronto has it's own police, Mississauga is part of the Peel region (basically a brand-name with *some* actual-administration for couple of cities outside Toronto, I don't know of any other way to describe it) and is policed by "Peel Regional Police", and Ontario as a whole has a provincial police force for our own small-town areas, too small for their own police department, and they police the roads between major cities.

Ah, that was probably why I was confused about that.  I grew up in small-town British Columbia.

I can't even figure out how he's still mayor at this point.  It boggles my mind.  I mean, at the very least he's admitted criminal activities.  What does it take to actually get removed from office?

My best guess is that mostly it is bureaucracy that keeps him in office.

Apparently no one actually made a law to remove a mayor from office, all they can do is strip his powers.  To be honest I don't think the lawmakers conceived of this situation.  In most cases the a offending politician resigns willingly, knowing that their political career is finished.  Rob Ford hasn't, and actually still stands a chance of being reelected due to the fact his opponents suck(like how the liberals win Ontario elections).

I was surprised that my brother and his boyfriend are strong Rob Ford supporters, and apparently he enjoys strong support in some parts of the city.  From what I hear the other city councillors are a lot worse than Ford.

I would find it amusing if he got re-elected.
