On even ground, Sacha might have a chance against Ness; but scrabbling across uneven ground, stumbling over tree roots and ducking under branches, the slim frame of the girl gave her an advantage.

"Aren't you always the one telling me to pay attention, Sacha?"

She run backwards a few steps, sticking her tongue out at Sacha. She regretted it when she turned around and her forehead slammed into a particularly thick tree branch.

[Nerjin]

Sacha caught up a momement later cursing her somewhat heavy armor. "You okay? Need me to Cure Wounds?"

Gig had been happily reading his book since dawn, planted in the soft grass. The dwarven runes described spells: a rare thing for dwarves to dabble with wizardry.
He vaguely wondered if he'd forgotten something he should do.

While hunting for berries, Darwyn came across a young gnome, reading a large book, oblivious to the world. It could only be one person.

"Well there you are, Gig. We've been waiting down at the docks."

Oleg snaps out of a bout of slowness, shaking his head but clinging tightly to the thought he managed to salvage. The monk then goes to find the druid and call him aside.

Darwyn! A second of yer time, if you don' mind?

[Sirus]

((*time warp noises*))

Darwyn had been about to leave when the half-orc called out.
"What's up, Oleg?"

Ness was on her ass, a large welt starting to form on her forehead, dazed but apparently uninjured beyond the largely superficial welt.

"Y-yeah, I think so...just surprised is all. And dizzy, a little bit..."

She stood up unsteadily, and shook her head, regretting it instantly. Owww...

"You guys didn't actually get any magic stuff, did you..." she asked demurely, walking towards where she thought the ship was. She would probably be pouty for the next few minutes until the pain faded a bit.

Ness, of course, was going in the wrong direction to get to the ship. She had a rather poor sense of direction.

Oleg is silent for a second.

Darwyn... You sure you want this sailing thing? You usually don' move around much. See, I be...I am sure that it'd be a good idea fer me, but you would be be the captain of the boat, since it was yer uncle's...

He fumbles for words for a second, then sighs.

I jus' wanted ta know your opinion on settin' of fer adventure in a boat, is all. It doesn't seem much like yer style - cramped quarters, not much solitude...

[Sirus]

Darwyn smiled in an assuring manner at his friend's concern.

"He left the boat for all of us, not just me. And I know nothing about boats or sailing so I'd be a poor choice for captain."

"Besides...solitude is well and good at times, but I definitely wish for - and pardon the phrase - human interaction sometimes. You, Beolas, Sacha, Ness, and Gig have probably kept me from becoming an outright hermit by now. And its not like there aren't plants and animals out there on other islands, wondrous things I've only heard stories off. I will miss my home here, but I will have you five. Plus Marina, assuming she comes along."

[GiglameshDespair]

"Ah! Oh, I see. I was sure there was something I had forgotten today."
He quickly rose, walking back towards the docks.
It wasn't long before he was among the rest, still clutching the thick tome.

Oleg smiles and nods slowly.

Right. It...concerned me, is all. Still, we're gonna have a fun time sailin' when all we have for a navigator is Sacha...

OK THEN

Over the course of an hour, Darwyn finds enough to feed 8 people for a day. He and Gig arrive at the ship soon after.

Everybody has just boarded the boat when
random encounter monsters appear

KOBOLDS ATTACK!

A party of six kobold warriors charges through the town to the south out of the forest. Kobolds have been spotted in the forest for years, but they've rarely, if ever, attacked the town. Either way, they seem intent on stopping you six from setting sail.

Or swimming.
Or walking.
Or really doing anything except lifelessly lie in the dirt.

One of them, the leader-looking guy, screams something you can't make out in Draconic. The party then jumps on the ship and knocks the gangplank into the water, trapping you on the ship. One of the boarding kobolds has also smashed the ladder above the cabin. He then whips a lock out of-- erm, his loincloth-- and locks the cabin shut.

Oleg's pupils widen as the kobold slashes at him, drawing blood. He hisses quietly, then lashes out with a kick and a swipe from his staff.

Attack kobold 5 with a Flurry of Blows: 1 unarmed attack and 1 quarterstaff attack.

((Note that since Rage doesn't active until my turn, I remain at 14AC and 15HP rather than 12AC and 17HP until that point. Rage endures for 8 rounds. The Attack Bonus and damage numbers on my weapon entry will be the accurate ones.))
