Chaining caged wild animals

How may I chain a caged wild animal without having a dwarf putting the animal to another cage?

Make sure the source animal's cage is stockpiled rather than built - the reason another dwarf comes along to re-cage it is because assigning it to a chain (or a new cage) also unassigns it from its old cage which results in another dwarf coming along to uncage it (and in the case of a wild animal or otherwise dangerous creature, this involves bringing an empty cage and stuffing the creature into it).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
