Simple way, Tawarochir: actually make it difficult to learn specific spells.

Also, caster level checks to cast spells. DC of 4*spell level. You can take 10 if you aren't threatened or anything.

Ritual magic suddenly becomes useful...
Oh yeah, reminds me of the time I accidentally rolled for a noncombat spell in the Twin'kaali campaign.

Hell, I think I'm going through with that. The caster level checks, that is.

Except it's a percentile roll, for which the DC is the inverse of spell level x 10, then with your spellcasting class level added. If you aren't threatened, you can opt to autopass, to allow for the casting of level 9's.

WAIT A FRIGGiN SECOND
We are... CaDzilla. Cleric and Druid -zilla.

THAT APPLIES FOR ALL SPELLCASTING CLASSES WITH BEFOREHAND SPELL PREPARATION (so excluding sorcerers and the like) STARTING NEXT GAME DAY

No, I realized a flaw with it.

Namely, that ability score bonuses should be added to it, but that means level 20 wizards can cast level 9 spells anyway.

Also, you realize the level of optimization our current party is using, right?

The cleric took toughness.

Toughness.

Fuck you...[/joke]

I like toughness. I'll take nothing BUT toughness if you say one more bad word about toughness.

^ That. The only people in the party who really seem to be optimizing much are Gig and myself, and he didn't go for Illusion school specialization with a gnome wizard while I'm building a tier 4 class into a one-trick pony. Casters are fine as they are.

You're lawful, so that would be difficult.

And it's not rage that pisses people off, it's frenzy.
I maintain that there is nothing quite as funny as a Frenzied Berserker who's reached the mass frenzy stage turning all of his party into slavering monsters like himself. Especially if it's done in an AMF while fighting a magical BBEG.

That said, I'm not going to take levels in Frenzied Berserker unless the DM and party are okay with it.

Frenzied Berserker in a party full of various melee types makes me giggle with glee.

I'm gonna try and optimize, inasmuch as I even can, but I didn't grab a barbarian, so with only core classes and a distaste for primary casters, Paladin/Bard ain't gonna do much.

What is this "optimization" you speak of?

It's where you take nothing but Toughness feats to be the best you can be!

Nerjin, stop.

You can be opposed to general optimization if you want to, but don't troll us about it when you told us not to make fun of your feat choices.

Seriously, if you decide to go down the 'purposefully crappy character' route I will be...rather upset...with you.

Which, of course, means you'll be our trap-bait from then on. And the one who knows Revive spells, which you can't cast on yourself, for obvious reasons.

You're also the evil character.

Incompetent evil tends to get Adventurered.

How lucky I have a hide alignment spell and a paladin in my group right? No paladin would travel with someone evil. I just happen to be humorously incompetent.

Not to mention I have heal spells so... That'd be nice I suppose.

I've already decided on Brew Potion for another feat. You worry about your character. I'll worry about mine.

[Granted, I might make a terrible character anyways. I'm just kinda doing what makes sense for her.]

I can learn both a bring-back-to-life spell, as well as a Reincarnation spell.

The problem with the first is that it must be done a very short time after death occurs, and the second brings the person's soul back in a new body. A body which might not be the same gender or even race as the deceased.

Well when Rolepgeek pushes me in front/into a trap you cast the first. Then Sacha, being the kind soul she is, instantly forgives those who have wronged her.

Until night time. When everyone is asleep.

That's always vastly more entertaining than true resurrection. Nothing like bringing back the wizard as an ogre or something.

I'd rather just re-roll honestly. I like Sacha the way she is. Her in a different body... Well... It might work. I'd probably have to think about it some before I just went with it. Maybe send her off on a solo-quest [IE Re-roll until the DM gets tired of me asking "Is Sacha herself again?"] to regain her true form.
