Fair warning, Tawa: The moment where you make one of us roll to avoid tripping over our own feet is the moment where I begin doing my utmost to derail the campaign.  :P

ALso, for wands, you still have to be able to learn or know the spell yourself, but you can use UMD,just like with scrolls.
I don't know what UMD is. HOWEVER, the wand page says nothing about the user learning or knowing the spell themselves. And the spell trigger page says, and I quote:

Quote
Anyone with a spell on his or her spell list knows how to use a spell trigger item that stores that spell. (This is the case even for a character who can’t actually cast spells, such as a 3rd-level paladin.)
Whereas scrolls must be read by someone who can learn or knows the spell. For example, a paladin would not be able to read a Longstrider spell scroll, even though it is divine magic, because he/she cannot actually learn that spell.

UMD is an abbreviation of Use Magic Device.

....halved. SOME item's weights are halved due to Small size. Your carrying capacity is 75% that of a Medium character with equivalent Strength.

Also, Tawarochir, just be glad there aren't any Warlocks. More broken than Wizards, if you make 'em right(oh yes here's a level 9 scroll at level 12 thank you very much).

@Sirus: But he could learn it if he continued advancing, which is what I meant. It has to be on their spell list to cast it without the skill Use Magic Device(UMD). So a fifth level ranger still would be unable to use a wand of Detect Evil.

Are you sure? I got that from this page: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Adventuring_Gear

These items weigh one-quarter this amount when made for Small characters. Containers for Small characters also carry one-quarter the normal amount.

According to the handbook it is a quarter. Which seems silly to me but whatever.

Ah, I'm thinking of weapons and armor, my bad.

Also, Nerjin, you know that CC means cross-class right? The checked skills should be the ones you don't have as class skills, rather than the ones you do?

Quick question: I get a bonus spell of Level 2 right? So... Do I prepare that even though I'm level one or do I wait until I'm high enough level to cast Level 2's normally?

You have to prepare it, silly mortal.

You still have to be able to cast it normally, yes.

That's not the way I'm reading it, Rolep. Any character that can use a spell - ANY spell - can use wands. Because the only restriction on the wand page is that wands use a spell trigger (a word), and anyone with A SPELL on their spell list can use a spell trigger even if they cannot currently use any spells. They have the potential, in other words.

Taw, what's your take on it?

Alrighty... Let me get this straight.

I have a bonus level 2 spell due to ability scores. BUT I do not normally get a level 2 spell due to my level. Now, DO I get a Level 2 spell right now? OR do I have to wait until I hit the proper level?

And Nerjin, you do not get to cast level 2 spells, regardless of bonus spells or not, until you've hit your third level in cleric.

Can't you retrain feats - taking Toughness early on and then replacing it once you have a few levels built up? Or is that more of a 4e thing?

Oh yes, my spells for today. Jeez, I've never used one of these "must figure them out in advance" classes before.

0th-level spells
  • Purify Food and Drink
  • Light
  • Guidance
1st-level spells
  • Cure Light Wounds
  • Goodberry
2nd-level spell (bonus from Wisdom score): Barkskin
3rd-level spell (ditto): Water Breathing

This is what confused me. Well I'm pretty sad I don't get to cast them but I suppose it's for the best.
