There is a solar system that is alone in the universe, far outside of even the outer rim, and in this solar system is a planet called Acheron by its inhabitants.

Acheron is at once the birthplace and the deathbed of Gods.

Acheron is at once the most fertile and the most barren of lands, the most peaceful haven and the most hellish warzone, the absolute best and absolute worst gambles, it is a land that offers salvation but leads to ruination – all based upon the whims of its inhabitants.

Acheron is home to many gods at once, each of which holds claim to portions of the heavens, which they use to grant godly powers to those who live upon Acheron.  The powers granted to their chosen Champions upon the material plane manifest in a Shard of Heaven, commonly a crystal in the shape of the God’s specific sign.

It’s known that having a God’s favor will slowly change the entire race, making them stronger, better.  It is also known that humans haven’t seen the favor of a God in eons, making them one of the weakest races.  They are looked upon by the other races as though they are cattle, used as slaves to do work that they feel is beneath them.  Even though there are plenty of humans around, most are currently in servitude; free humans are hunted down, put in irons and dragged away to be sold upon the auction blocks, killed for mere sport, or eaten by the more bloodthirsty races.

Our story begins with a small congregation of humans, free from the clutches of slavery and on the run.  Soon two of these humans will meet with a God whom by all rights should be dead.  With his help they will begin their journey to bring glory to the human race and help their God fulfill his desires.  Who were they again?

OOC:  Right, so, I'm nervous as all hell and have been having trouble writing this thing, but I might as well get this show on the road.

So I dreamed up this ridiculous thing one day and it actually stuck in my head (which is really weird for me - I don't normally remember dreams) and have been wanting to turn it into a game ever since.  Basically it's going to be a sort of D&D-esque game, but the party system will be different than normal.  Namely there won't be a party, instead we'll have one guy or girl(I'll extrapolate on that when we get to it, it won't be long).  FG&RP seems to be the place to go when you want to get games up and going, so I'm throwing it to you guys to tear apart and do with it as you please.

The idea of this is that once we get to a certain point you'll be able to do as you please, the game will open up completely, and we can go about this crazy world that I've cooked up.  Before that, though, I've got to do a small bit of railroading.  I've seen a couple of D&D games (and Call of Cthulu (OMH you will be remembered)) get completely derailed even before it started, so there will be a small bit of linear progression.

Anyway, I need you guys and gals to cook me up a hero(ine).  I'll need:

Name:
Gender:  (M/F)
Preferred Weapon:  (As exotic as you can make it, we'll be stuck with it for a while (dual weapons are acceptable))
Magic School:  (This will show up later, or sooner depending, make up schools if you want (just explain it))
Element:  (Earth, Fire, Wind, Water.  No Light, No Darkness, explanations on that later)

If you guys have any questions, critiques, better OP's, I'll be happy to answer, take it, throw it up instead of mine.

Well, we've already got two suggestions on opposite ends of the spectrum.  Let's see if anymore show up and then we can throw up a vote.

EDIT: Y'know what.  Executive motion.  Both characters are in.  Post will be up soon.

The group of thirty or so weary humans finally trudged into the shade at the base of the mountain they had seen from the city where they escaped from weeks earlier.  It had seemed like a godsend at first however they hadn't realized how exhausting the travel would actually be.  The mountain itself rested within the corner of the known world, within the middle of the largest, most hostile desert.  Saying the closest city was outside of the civilized world would have been an understatement, this area hadn't been mapped within the last hundred or more years and had largely been abandoned by even the most hardy of races.  The humans however, were not here by choice, but by desperation.  They had been shipped out to the city, Rikuroa, and sold to the local spice mining company.  The company worked them to the bone, and was owned by a group of Skrellits, a golem-like people made from soft, expensive metals.  The Skrellits abused the humans, not understanding the need for basic human necessities while looking only at their profits.

Months went by, with only a core handful of the humans surviving, and many more humans being brought to ultimately die out in the sands.  One fateful day however, a couple of slaves living in the city escaped with gear necessary to escape and live within the desert for what had seemed like months at first.  Cloaks to hide them in the sands, enough water skins for weeks, and more than enough travel food for all of them.  They joined forces with the mining slaves and slowly began sneaking more and more people into the groups sent out to mine every day.  Finally the time came that they were able to flee the Skrellits, whose plodding pace couldn't keep up with the humans long strides.  The weeks afterwards had been grueling, losing members every day to thirst, hunger, or the wild creatures of the desert.

Throughout this entire time, they could see the mountain, always looming in the distance.  One thing to be said about humans is that they're a determined lot, and with their goal in sight they persevered.  Finally at their goal however, their hopes faded.  Barnaby, their leader and organizer, looked at the motley group and sighed.

"Well, it looks like we're here, wherever that is.  Who all has water left?"

Those with enough energy to glare at him did so.

"...  Right, we ran out yesterday...  Everyone just sit here for a moment while I think."

Most did so, relieved to finally have relief from the glaring sun and a moment to rest their legs.  One of the cloaked figures began slinking off while everyone else rubbed their feet, shortly after another followed.

"Hey!  Where are you going?!"  A determined female voice called after the figure.

I'm going to find a cave into this thing, there has to be one with how large it is."  A deep male voice answered back.

"Ustris?"

"Who else, Kleine?  You should know by now that I can't stand Barnaby, let alone taking orders from him."

"You should at least take some time to rest..."

"Pfah!  And sit here to wait around for another of his hare-brained schemes?  No, there's a cave around here somewhere and I'm going to find it."

Kleine Feuersturm knew that when Ustris got like this, there was no arguing with him, all she could do at this point was to make sure that he didn't kill himself.  Ustris Gayitu however knew for a certainty that in a mountain this large there would be a cave, with his experience being an ore miner years ago, all he had to do was find it.

"You could at least tell the rest of them where you're going."

"And get another earful of Barnaby, and how he's always right, and how it's an impenetrable mountain.  I think not."

"What even makes you think that there is a cave?  This could be-"

"There."  Ustris pointed at a shadow about twenty feet up the face of the mountain.

"What, I don-"

"There's a cave there, and I'm going into it."

"But-"

Ustris turned around and looked at her, placing his hands on her shoulders,  "Kleine, I know your mind is better than mine.  I also know you've been listening to Barnaby for too long.  What will happen if we don't find water within two days."

She looked at her feet, "You don't have to scold me, I understand we're in dire straits."

"You know I worked as an ore miner, you know that I've been in a few caves, even in this arid land, I know for a fact there's water in that cave.  I'm going into it."  With that he turned towards the cliff and began to look for natural handholds.

Kleine looked back towards the little mounds on the ground, now that she had stepped away from them she saw something that hadn't been obvious when she was with them.  They all seemed... broken, even Barnaby.  They all had their heads down and were ready to give up.  Ustris kept on, determined to live, and she realized she didn't want to be with the others anymore.

"Hold on, I'm coming with you."

Kleine hurried after Ustris, who already had a head start.  Being more lithe and agile than the larger figure, she was able to reach the ledge before the cave at the same time as him.

"Stay behind me, we don't know what's in there."

Kleine couldn't exactly explain it, but she felt something distant, as if her very fate was changing, and that she was being pulled into something larger.  It made her uneasy, but anything was better than sitting around for death.

Ustris didn't want to say anything, but he was sure he had felt something exactly like Kleine was, and he was certain that the cave had suddenly appeared in front of his eyes, but he was too embarrased to say it out loud.

Whether it was the wind blowing into the cave, or their destinies pulling them further in, they slowly advanced deeper into the mountain.

OOC: Blargh, I didn't realize how much effort these things take.  Anyway, small bits of railroading for the next couple of posts, shouldn't be too long.  If anyone has any grammar corrections or writing critiques, go ahead and lay them on me.  (Also if anyone knows how to tab that would be perfect.)

Mmm... Are you wanting suggestions for this, or are you just going to be posting the next few bits as you write them? I'm assuming the latter, because railroading.

Yeah it was going to be railroading, although suggestions are fine.  I've got a ton of it written already, but the posts are all going to be hugigantic.

Can you change Ustris' speach color?
Uh, to what color?  I wanted something that represented earth and Beige is the closest, although I understand it probably looks awful on anything other than Darkling. >_>

EDIT: Going to change his color to either Green or blue just for regular forum-goers.  I was going to go with a bit where they had colors that represented their element, but brown's really bad at being brown and beige is way too light for anything other than Darkling to read.

Black glow and bold makes everything better.
Noted and stolen!

Remember what these two's relationship with each other is, exactly?

Ustris glanced at the slender figure entering the cave with him, surprised that he felt this close to her after meeting only a couple of weeks earlier.  He thought back to that fateful night when they both met, only the day before they had both escaped.  Kleine had been a slave to a rather successful trader within the city of Rikuroa, where she had been given a job as a maid.  From her descriptions of it though, it seemed more as though she were an object to beat whenever the trader ended up with less out of a trade than he wished.  They had both talked through the nights, well, Kleine talked and he listened to her stories for the most part.  When Kleine started talking there wasn't much that could stop her.  They were enjoyable nights, her chatting would end up lulling him to sleep.  Her only fault that he could really find is that she was inexperienced to the world, then again she was roughly a decade younger than him.  Her keen reflexes had saved him multiple times in their trek across the desert.  She had been able to spot the stray small creatures, and a couple of times kill them with her knife from a distance, before Ustris could.  He was glad Kleine had decided to come with him, though he knew that it was possible he was leading her to his death.  Ustris began his way into the cave, his throat reminding him constantly of the need for water.

Kleine stared at the broad shoulders entering the cave before her, even malnourished and beaten, Ustris cut an imposing figure.  He had apparently spent a large amount of years as a slave for a mining company that collected ore from the mountains to the east.  She could hardly get a word out of his mouth before today, barely eking out his name at first.  Her sum of knowledge about Ustris was that he had been an ore miner, had been married when he was her age, and that he was thoroughly methodical.  Every move he made had distinct thought and purpose behind it.  She also noticed that he had a sort of distant quality to him, he had never wanted to associate with the rest of the group.  She might have been mistaken but he might not have come along had it not been for her.  There had been a few uncertain nights where they were attacked by creatures as large as an ox, where she nearly ran, but her and made her hide.  With their cloaks they blended into the desert and the creatures passed them by.  She was glad to have met him and noticed that slowly she had come to depend on Ustris.

OOC:  Basically, Ustris is very loner-ish.  He thinks everything out and hates being with groups, most of them are unpredictable and impossible for him to plan everything out.  He likes to think everything out and is surprised he actually joined the escape (as it was hastily put together, with maybe two days of planning at maximum).  He had a family once, but slaves are normally restricted from having them unless they have very generous owners, the mining company wasn't one of those generous owners.  Ustris is something in the range of 26~30.  He's actually pretty old for most humans.

Kleine is very much a socialite, she can't stand being away from gropus and only went with Ustris because she could tell that he had a plan, while the rest of them seemed to stop caring.  She has great reflexes and what seems to be a boundless source of energy.  She's young, probably about 16~20ish.

EDIT:  Changed the first story bit to Froggy's suggestion, slightly more readable for everyone not using Darkling. :P

Also for later use when I said Staff/spear I meant it like a staff with a pointed bottom end for stabbing.

I was sort of thinking of a crystalline quarter staff with sharpened ends.

To the cave!
Soon!  Most of it's written, gotta do colors and stuff.
