I imagine turn updates from Zanz might be a bit slow what with all the city states and marauding bands (which might give us cause not to do our turns in advance) etc.

The turns will take awhile, but not just due to the reasons you listed.  I've been away for the whole day today (posting from a phone right now), and there are some other games I am running.  Splash in the fact I now only have an hour on the PC that can run the game, and it all adds up to the turns taking awihle.  these opening turns are only your actions, so that isn't too much of a worry.  Also, Just so everybody knows, barbarians are going to be showing up at turn 5.

Can we ask how close they will be appearing?

I would rather be able to work on non-troop related production until it's absolutely necessary, but...if we can't know how close they'll appear, I don't want to take the risk of them taking my city Turn 6.

I have my turns roughly planned to about 15. Anything past five, though, is heavily subject to change due to barbarians.

Any location, determined by dice 1 tile outside the borders of the nations, number of armies spawned is determined by a 1d6, weighted for 1 spaning none 2-4 spawning 1, 5 spawning 2, 6 spawning 3.

Cluster size is determined by the point of the game and a 1d10.
Turns 5-10
1 unit: 1-6
2 units: 7-9
3 units: 10

Turns 11-15
1 unit: 1-4
2 units: 5-8
3 units: 9-10

Turns 16-20
1 unit: 1-2
2 units: 4-7
3 units: 8-10

Turns 21-25
1 unit: 1
2 units: 2-7
3 units: 8-10

Turns 26+
2 units: 1-6
3 units: 7-9
4 units: 10

Can we ask how close they will be appearing?

Any location, determined by dice 1 tile outside the borders of the nations, number of armies spawned is determined by a 1d6, weighted for 1-3 spawning 1, 4-5 spawning 2, 6 spawning 3.

Cluster size is determined by the point of the game and a 1d10.
Turns 5-10
1 unit: 1-6
2 units: 7-9
3 units: 10

Wait, so will they appear every turn? And automatically start one tile outside the border of a nation, possibly with three units, on turn 5?(I can't even get a spearman until turn 7 or 8 at minimum, really).

I need to figure out what the average number of barbarians spawning will be, because this seems like it's going to be nigh-impossible to deal with.

No, they spawn anywhere on the map except areas within 1 of the nation borders.  And unless they are within 2 turns to a city, they wander aimlessly.

Could I request putting the turn results in a spoiler please? A summary of what happened, you know? It'll only be important come turn 5 or so, I think, but still...

And could we know what favor we have with each City State, please?

EDIT: Also, good goddamn that was clever, Kashyyk. Jeezus. Although...we might catch up what with you not having labor and all...

1) I forgot this time.

2) None of you have made contact with the civilizations yet.  When contact is made, disposition will be tracked in a spoiler.

I dunno how effective it actually was though, I just didn't want every turn to be identical :P

Well, you have 3 more food than the rest of us, for the moment, but at the cost of one labor. Best way to take advantage of this would be to focus solely on expanding along the river as fast as you can to grow on that pop advantage.

Barbarians.  Spreading long makes them more likely to run into your territory.

Do they auto-pillage when they're in your territory then?

I'm not saying to do it forever, but if he can capitalize on his food advantage, he can come back from his low city population with an advantage, considering the only thing we're spending Labor on is farms at the moment.

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.
