Jhon takes a look around, then approaches one of the food merchants. He buys four days' worth of dried meat (-2 SR), and as the merchant is weighing it up, he asks if there's anything going upriver tomorrow morning.

-Sure, there's a barge going up to Near Wildside tomorrow at nine. Called Fortune or something like that. It's moored at the quay over there for now, - he points at one end of the market square: Jhon sees a large triangular sail rising over a warehouse building - and there's also all sorts of smaller craft down there too, maybe one of them is going.

Jhon already has a bedroll, so he's got that going for him.

Klara takes a more substantial shopping trip in the meantime: a good bedroll (fur and leather), several packages of dried meat and fruit for variety, a tent into which four people would fit (in a folded state, it's a light but unwieldy package consisting of support poles wrapped in fabric), and a set of climbing spikes, plus a hammer. (-25 SR) She's not able to find a weapon of satisfactory quality here: Steelwrights' Street is not far off, however, should she want to go looking.

Gregor also buys food supplies, a hatchet, a bedroll, some tools wrapped in oilcloth, and a smallish keg of gunpowder, as well as a can of musket balls. (-20 SR) As a weaponsmith himself, he appraises the few firearms availible here, and finds them to be kinda crap. He doesn't know the way to Steelwrights' Street, but he knows Klara, as a native of Vratgorod, does.

Abbas just stands still for a while, observing his surroundings with a casual air.

Abbas never like markets. Reminded him too much of the backroom dealing involved to get those goods here in the first place. Regardless, after a few moments of contemplation, he purchased a chopping axe, a knife, a portable grindstone and some bolts for his crossbow. He also looked around to see if there were any Farlander merchants.

Head to steelwright's street. Ask if Gregor want's to come with.

I think I'll head back to the Stamp and Mallet. I've got nothing else to go looking for.

Actually, on second thought, I'll go check out this river barge and try to make arrangements, then head back.

Abbas makes up his mind about this place, and springs into action. He buys another knife, an axe, a few more bolts from a fletcher, and a whetstone.(-12 SR) Then he surveys his surroundings: there aren't many Farlander merchants here - they prefer the Kagan's Market to sell their opals, gold, and spices. Still, there are a few: a scrawny, despondent-looking fellow selling beets, and a sleek woman with a stall full of obviously fake silver trinkets.

Klara heads to Steelwrights' Street in the meantime, Gregor in tow. The street connects the Kagan's Market and the riverside: it's some fifteen minutes away, so they get there quite fast. It's a wide avenue with shops on either side, some with display pieces in the windows. A pistol and a crossbow aren't hard to find there. (-20 SR) (-15 SR)

The Fortune is a large, lumbering river vessel with a green-painted hull, flying the flag of Vratgorod over the flag of house Vishnevetsky - a red circle on a black field. The captain is a short old woman with a grandmotherly attitude and a mouth like a garbage pit. She informs Jhon that she will indeed be setting sail at nine in the morning tomorrow, and that she has free bunks. The fare is fifty srebren per person, or half as much if you agree to do guard work and help out on the deck.
Jhon then decides to go back to the inn, seeing as he already has everything he wanted. The inn is only a few streets away, so he thinks he can get back without any problems. [1] He walks briskly for several minutes, lost in his own thoughts, not noticing the buildings to either side get shabbier and shabbier. When he comes to his senses, he sees nothing familiar around him. There's a bar of some sort here, called The Pale Horse, according to the sign, which depicts the aforementioned horse - drawn by somebody with a very flimsy grasp of anatomy. The sounds of breaking things are emanating from the bar. Most of the other buildings on this street have boarded-up windows on the ground floor - a burglar-proofing measure, probably.

Jhon thinks for a moment, keeping an eye on his surroundings, and then tries to head back the way he came from. Glass shattering sounds are never good.

Abbas, seeing that he had bought all he needed, returned to the inn.

Fool around for some time, watching the showcases from the street, marveling at good firearms and detesting ugly ones. Then sigh, for no more money for buying first ones are available for poor old cripple Gregor, and set back to inn.

[LOGIC:7/10-2 SUCCESS] Jhon puts his analytical abilities to the task of getting him the heck out of this place, and preferrably also to the inn. He remembers that the sun was to his left when he set out from the market square. He aligns himself so it's to his right, and sets off at a brisk pace, trying to look both nonchalant and decidedly unrobbable. After a while, the surroundings become familiar again, and soon he is back at the Stamp and Mallet, his wallet still in his pocket and his liver conspiciously empty of knives.

Abbas also decides to head back. He finds his way with relative ease: perhaps he's less prone to getting lost in thought than Jhon.

Back at Steelwrights' Street, Klara remembers she forgot something at home, and rushes off in a hurry, leaving Gregor to find his own way to the inn. Gregor shrugs, then heads back, pausing to ogle shop displays now and then. Strangely enough, he also doesn't get lost.

The party is back at the Stamp and Mallet, with the sole exception of Klara.

While waiting for Klara, make sure my artificial leg is in proper condition to walk for distances (it is, right?), then clean my weapons, charge them after cleaning, all done while humming some generic tune.

Klara reaches her home, runs inside at a dead sprint, turns off her stove, then stands there for a minute, cursing and breathing heavily. Then she heads back to the inn and soon gets there.

Gregor checks his leg- it's still generally leg-shaped, capped with steel on the end. Then he lays out his weaponry, brushes it with a rag, pours some powder in the musket and the pistol, slides the ball in, then tamps them both with paper to prevent the ball and powder from pouring out. Now, should the need arise, he needs only to cock the hammer on the pistol or ignite the saltpeter-soaked slowmatch to be ready to fire.

Buy some fine ale, or what-have-you from this fine establishment. Also, buy a large supply, specifically! No mercenary should be without alcohol for too long.

Abbas looks around and observes who else is at the inn.
