I don't know if it's so much along the lines of 'maintenance of the soul' so much as it is 'farming to avoid dying horribly'.

It's really not a religion in anything like the typical sense. They have no creed or motto. The Commoragh has rules of it's own, and I feel like I remember there being a cult of personality or something around the leader/highest power in the Dark Eldar, and that makes me think it's almost like a religion, but at that point religion just equals culture or ideology and it becomes meaningless to consider a theocracy. Theocracies are run by priests. Deiocracies by gods.

Newcrons, as far as I know, don't count in any direction because they have a rather substantial lack of individual minds to bother with anything at all, really.

At a wild guess, Eldar Windrider jetbikes. 3 models two of which can take a heavy weapon, either a Scatter Laser or Shuriken Cannon, highly mobile, as durable as space marines and just as reliable on the attack. Since they're Troops they also get Objective Secured which is an insanely strong rule in objective based games. In a full game it's hard to get a better bargain for 75 points, and even in a 75 point deathmatch they're still very scary.

Assuming what happened in fantasy/AoS is an indication for the direction GW wants to take with them in 40k, when Chaos wins they destroy everything and go find another reality to play with. Basically extradimensional parasites, they suck a dimension dry of all amusement and power worth taking, then move on once they tire of it.

If AoS is GWS jettisoning 25 years of world building that borrowed from the best sci-fi and fantasy had to offer at the time....then when they do it for 40k, I'm out.

AoS so far has struck me as generic, insensible trash. Powertrips and God-gasms. And I say that as a 40k fan GWS may have liberally borrowed from a lot of other people's ideas, but the end product worked. Them making a fresh start at world and universe creation doesn't leave me feeling excited, it leaves me feeling cold.

I personally feel the AoS setting has potential, it's more mythic in many ways than Fantasy was. It's essentially set in the setting's version of the time Sigmar united the humans of the Old World, with mighty heroes and literal gods waging wars against each other, rather than stagnant and dying civilizations trying to fend off barbarous hordes from the wilds.

I feel the setting itself, being a blatant derivation of the Norse mythology at it's heart, what with nine worlds all based on a theme, mixed with the magic winds from Fantasy has the potential to be really good.

The big problem with the setting at the moment is that there's not been any big fluff supplements covering the whole thing yet. There's been a few faction specific ones, but there's so many more factions now that such things aren't all that helpful on their own, and there's been a few novels set in the world, which I am told are decent, but whole races are currently unknown in any real detail.

Its a real shame.  I started looking into 40k after TWW was announced and I looked there, and I rather liked it.
