In any case, I've heard of Nurgle being put forward as 'the hope which only is found in the bleakest of circumstances'.
It was basically the reason I thought all of his minions acted like cancer-ward-kids.

Yeah, it was presented as basically the equivalent of the Fall of the Eldar only for humanity, caused by the extreme amount of authoritarian rule and stuff in the Imperium and the dogma of unquestioning servitude to the Emperor. When he died it all kinda catalyzed.
The Astronomicon also got reborn when the Tyrant came around, but looking at the new one too long brainwashes you into becoming one of his minions.

Of course this isn't the end of it, at least one part of ol' Empy floated off and all the Endgame factions haven't shown up quite yet.

Anyway, to expand on the point regarding the difference between Chaos Gods and the Eldar Gods in this game, the Chaos Gods can have their domains described by a single word or a collection of single words. Khorne would be violence / hate, while Slaanesh would be excess. They are broad, but they lack definition, which is why the Chaos Gods are so inconsiderate of consequences. Tzeentch is happy to weave endless plans until they snarl and tangle each other up or even backfire on him, and Khorne doesn't care about the source of the blood, so long as it's flowing.

The Eldar Gods are best described as stories. Cegorach is not just trickery, he is someone defeating his enemies by using mockery and trickery to remain distant while turning their strengths against them, just as he did during the War in Heaven when he convinced the C'tan to start eating each other. When a Solitaire dies, Cegorach doesn't go into the Warp to brawl with Slaanesh for the soul, since he's nowhere near powerful enough to do that. Instead, he stirs up trouble with one of the other Chaos Gods, and snatches up the soul when Slaanesh isn't looking. Khaine is very close to Khorne, but you can see his stories in the Aspect Warriors. The Eldar Gods have a "how" in addition to a "what".

It's possible for humanity to form something similar to the Eldar Gods as well. It would be the story of someone who overcomes the innate advantages that monsters have through skill or determination or ingenuity.

I do remember one cool short story where it had an inept planetary governer oversee his planet's inevitable descent into fully-fledged demon world. There's a great moment where it's full of Slaaneshi demons, Nugle demons, Tzeentchi demons, and to add insult to injury the governer gets so pissed off he opens a rift allowing Khorne demons in, making it a full house. Then he has a moment of absolute clarity, and it freaks out the Khorne bloodletters as to why the governer isn't scared anymore.

Note, if people prefer this to be someplace else, do say, but I didn't think it warranted a new thread for the few times I'll do this. Then again, this turned out to be a surprising amount of fun. Like a war journalist trying to get a perfect shot of the action! Also, it seems a new update for the mod is coming that will add a campaign mode of sorts, sounds like it'll be fun.

Tau, deciding that, yes, that ork base did need some redecorating. Unfortunately, they only brought their plasma wallpaper.


The nid ai decided for some reason that it was perfectly content with just amassing more gaunts in its base, letting the others do the brunt of the work.


Which doesn't mean they didn't come to annoy my conscripts from time to time.


Luckily, they had mortar support from the high ground.

Nid swarm decided to come out and play. Valkyrie gunship to the rescue!



But the real fun started when a Stormhammer came out to meet the horde head-on. What's cool is that, in this game, you can airdrop these tanks, and they are delivered by an actual transport, all very nicely modeled.




I swear, seeing those gatling guns just tear into the horde, cutting down the lesser spawn like so many blades of grass... It was beautiful.
