Basically answers the question "WTF Tyranids." They're not fleeing some horror at the edge of the galaxy. They were possibly a bio-weapon created by an ancient Xenos race that were summoned when Dantioch "Feels Man Iron Warrior" overloaded the Pharos to stop the Night Lords, and got the Great Devourer's attention with its signal.

It kept referencing that the device had some ulterior purpose besides communication, part of a vast Doomsday Weapon against Chaos. Given that the Tyranids aren't really corruptible as we know it, put two and two together....maybe the Pharos signaling at max power was what was needed to draw their bio-weapon, to the place where the alarm beacon was activated.

I just kind of figured the Pharos was Necron tech all along. Definitely got a Necron vibe from the first descriptions in The Unremembered Empire, though I don't recall quite why. Necrons are all anti-Warp, so it makes sense to me if it's anti-Chaos.

Aren't the Tyranids in the epilogue on a set course somewhere when the Pharos overload catches their attention and changes their course? Seemed more like a coincidence than anything intended. Pretty sure it's one of those ambigious things you can headcanon to your liking anyway.
