In the grand scheme of things, jack all.
Warmer, warmer...
Ok, either you're trying to lead me into something, or you're trying to make me embrace true nihilism.
Either way I feel uneasy.

So, I finished Pharos, one of the newer HH books. Mediocre otherwise, but the epilogue had some nice implications. Basically:

it will make me unbearably upset that so many people like the Imperium, who are space nazis. Like literally space nazis. As in, openly their ideology is based on hatred, paranoia, anti-intellectualism, and contempt. Like what the fuck is wrong with you that you're okay with that?
Context is important. If a videogame starred a protagonist who killed everyone around him, he'd be the villain if the setting was in a city (Hatred) but a hero if he was in Hell (Doom). The Nazis thought of their actions as grim but necessary. In 40k, that thinking is actually correct which is why people applaud with the Imperium's practices but not the Nazis' atrocities. When the Imperium does things that aren't justified, people become upset both in-universe and out.

Ignore it. GW is doing this thing where they're trying to link everything that happens in 40k with 30k so that the period becomes more important than it really should be and thus get people to spend money on 30k-related stuff. The old explanation makes much more sense.

I guess it does gain some context if an offshoot went "well the emperor was great but he wasn't the messiah" and got purged with fire because of the chance that there was actually Tzeentch behind it and it was a cult conspiracy to rule the world's banks.

... Oh wait.

Heheh. Putting the starting touches on my freebootaz boatlewagon whilst humming timeless shanties such as "Our Kabin Boyz a git" and "Me slugga an Teef"

Gotta learn the words to the Orky chant in the opening of Battlefleet Gothic.

"Fifteen Orks on a dead man’s hulk,
Lookin’ down the barrel of a gun,
Gruntin’ at each other
through big, sharp teeth,
Sayin’ “This one’ll give us some fun”

Fourteen Orks on a humie’s ship,
Killin’ anything that isn’t green,
Gruntin’ at each other
through big, sharp teeth,
Sayin’ “Times be getting’ lean”

Thirteen Orks with the Captain’s chest,
Hopin’ to quench their greedy thirst,
Gruntin’ at each other
through big, sharp teeth
Sayin’ “I was da wun dat saw it first”

One lone Ork left to steal the loot,
Wishin’ it hadn’t turned out so,
Gruntin’ to himself
through big, sharp teeth
Sayin’ “I shoulda let the pilot go”

Freebootaz are definitely my most favourite kind of orks. They seem to be pretty bright compared to others, and they sometimes even trade with Rouge Traders and both parties get out relatively unscathed.
When dealing with them you have to make sure that your hat is way less cool than the one their Boss is wearing, or at least be willing to part with it.

Didn't Creative Assembly create a human faction (Scrubs or something)

And they apparently hated them soo much they adamantly refused to ever make models for them again and did something extremely childish and petulant... But I cannot remember what.
Squats. Creative Assembly didn't create them.

Yoiu mean GW, not CA. CA makes Total War.

Neo confused Games Workshop for Creative Assembly. Also not just squats, really.

Yeah but I don't remember Gaming Workshop almost outright seeming like they hated one of their previous factions.

GW made the Squats back in 1st edition 40k, then when they were re-writing stuff for 2nd edition none of the designers could face trying to update Squats into a form they didn't find embarrassing, so they let them fade into obscurity for ages then eventually decided to have them nommed by 'nids in the fluff so people would stop bugging them about a codex update.
