If tech-priests did not understand, how volkite stuff worked during great crusade, it is pretty strange to expect, how would someone be capable of repairing volkite gun with spare parts, also spare parts are not produced for like 10000 of years.
This applies to the Imperium as much or more so than it does to Chaos.

Some Legion warbands have only experienced 30 years of time since the Heresy, they should be basically at full operational capacity minus the battle damage from the flight to the Eye after the Battle of Terra.

That and the mutating effects of the Warp make a lot of gear night unbreakable since it heals when damaged due to being partially organic.

While Chaos Legions certainly shouldn't have full units worth of volkite gear like they did in the Crusade they should still have enough to give their champions and weapons specialists a gun every now and then.

I mean, the 'obvious' answer is just that the Warp fucked up their equipment so they couldn't use it, but...I dunno. That explanation doesn't really seem right. Maybe they cannibalized all their equipment for spikes/repairing other equipment?

Also, the actual legions of the damned. Like a third of the Imperial Army joined Chaos, at least, if I remember right. Shouldn't they have some of the fuckhueg tanks from back then (like when Baneblades were considered 'medium' or whatever)?

It's because Chaos never gets the nice stuff meanwhile Imperium fields so called ""Barrel of Monkeys" armies with Codex: Grey Knights Jokaero where all of your monkeys get a nice tiny ring which is a FUCKING LASCANNON. And Heavy Flamer. And Multi-Melta. AT THE SAME TIME.

Baneblades were considered light tanks back in the Dark Age Of Technology. During the Great Crusade they only had Malcadors and Leman Russes and Baneblades and crapton of second-world cheap knockoffs built by the worlds they conquered, possibly named differently, but nothing specifically hueger or more powerful. Except of course Mechanicus, but eh, they still keep their toys, more or less, in 40k.

Chaos scum didn't get to keep all their toys after the Horus heresy, the remaining loyal legions pursued them so hard and ruthlessly they had to run to the eye with what little was left after that.

I'm curious as to how a tank would evolve. Would it climb out of the primordial ooze wiggling it's track-nubs, feeding on smaller jeeps before crawling onto the shore having evolved proper treds?
My ship exploded midflight, but all the shrapnel totally landed on Alpha Centauri before anyone else did.  Bow before me world leaders!

They really should split Chaos Marines into two sub-factions, Renegades and Legions, with Renegades getting most of the same tech as the Codex Marines and the Legions getting gear based on FWs Horus Heresy game.

Doesn't really make sense that groups like the Red Corsairs don't keep their Speeders, Crusaders, Redeemers and Grav Guns when they join Chaos. Also doesn't make sense that the Legions don't seem to have a single volkite weapon left between them.
Iirc, last time someone said that the chaos codex got gutpunched and lost all it's cook stuff to be replaced with worse SM stuff.
Grav guns are great but i'd rather keep my blit.

Still waiting for the Eye of Terror to spit out a bunch of Dornian Heresy crossways refugees, leading to great confusion and fun for all.

The ones that end up in Eye Of Terror end up being eaten/killed/chaos anyway and the ones that make it to Imperium are proably instantly killed for being heretics that try to infiltrate Imperium and spread lies so AFAIK, it might be happening all the time.

Who said they were loyalist refugees?

Well, Chaos Space Marines from Dornian Heresy are basically... Renegade Chaos Space Marines for regular WH40k? What's the big difference for anyone really?

I was more saying that we would have Chaos-flavored marines from all 20 18 legions. I don't think the Dornian CSMs would be killed and eaten, given that vanilla CSMs survive well enough.

But it's totally possible right now anyway, due to Renegades being a thing. While they don't really gather a lot of attention (except Dark Angels, due to their ALWAYS LOYAL ALL THE TIME bullshit), Renegades from all chapters (and sometimes, full chapters) happen from time to time but it's not really that big thing since Inquisiton and angry ex-brother Loyalists tend to clean up any traitors pretty fast.

The other thing is that I'd object to calling those Renegades. Renegade Space Marines, in my definition, are the ones who don't serve Chaos or the Imperium ala Soul Drinkers and the chapters that go around outside Imperial authority setting up petty kingdoms (as opposed to the Ultramarines doing that inside the Imperium uweeeoooo~).
