Hostile work environment
« on: June 25, 2014, 12:49:49 pm »

I have a new embark, hot tropical broadleaf forests. 10z+ cliffs.

There is also more than 2 pages of absolutely nothing but saltwater crocodiles, hippos, and asps. Any suggestions? I'm thinking sacrificial asp pit.

Ooh! How about a croc moat?

Bonus points if you add in stingrays, too.

That's... a lot of critters for a normal embark.

War crocs and hippos are a must though.

Fill it with magma, no more pages of critters.  Problem solved!*

YOU CAN MAKE WAR HIPPOS well that's going to be a thing.

Also, yes. Croc moat indeed.

Oh, I see you've made it past our asp moat, and the angry crocodilles.  Well, the last thing to defeat before you get to fight the dwarves are the WAR HIPPOPOTOMI!

The hippos will starve long before you can get them to become war hippos. Good luck trying though. Just hunt the hippos down, and get a ton of meat, and make war crocs instead. Beware their ugly shoes.

Imma fix dat with the hippos presently.

Also, I think I'm going to reenact my first major personal project, which was a system that automatically dropped live crocodiles on invaders from above.

hippos aren't grazers so you don't have to worry about anything, except training them of course.

just randomly place a few cage traps along the outside of your map.  You don't need to overdo it or make pathing traps, you'll get a steady trickle of captured animals.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

Oh, you're right. I could have sworn they were. I guess I was thinking of rhinos

Oh, when I want to capture animals I make ~30 cage traps and spread them out over the entire map. Got spammed with Rhesus Macaques though... But I DID get 2 Giant Eagles, which is a plus.
