Holy shit, Tarnoth's will save's a 10.

Whisper sadistic taunts into his ear, to drive him mad.  Guilt trip him about his friend, stuff like that.

You attempt to snatch the spirit of the elf from the air, but it' already gone. Maybe you shouldn't have wasted time trying to possess Tarnoth?
You then proceed to follow Tarnoth, whispering sadistic taunts in his ear, telling him about how you drove his friend insane. He took several swipes at you on the way, but due to the fact that you're made of gas, it just passed right through. Still, he's continuing on the way he was going with Wimir. Perhaps he is still hoping to find that orb?
What do?

Keep taunting him, specifically whisper to him that the elf's spirit was still in there, that there was no need for his friend to die, that he's a murderer.

We must wear him down.

Just start following him, let's see what will happen while trying to convince him that he could get his buddy back.
Man, if you could've just believed me, none of this would have happened, your elf buddy would still be alive, you would have gotten the... Ball.. Thing, but... I think I could help you getting your friend back, remember, souls don't disappear like a little poof in the air, they float into the sky and I happened to catch him, or It because honestly, I feel kind of bad about this, this didn't need to happen, but first if you want your friend back, I'm going to need a conduit to put the soul into.
So, what do you think?

"Just shut UP!"
Tarnoth makes several more swipes at you with his axe, allowing you to notice the mad look in his eyes. You're not entirely certain you want to possess him anymore. He might be able to fight back and even kill you through sheer force of will.
Oh look, a cave entrance. Tarnoth quickly runs in, and you lose sight of him in the darkness of the cave.
What to do?
