[SG] Cryostasis
« on: June 22, 2014, 04:18:37 pm »

You are Daniel McPensy and you open your eyes.

You are in the stasis chamber. The metal doors meant to keep you within the chamber during cryostasis are slowly opening, letting ice-cold air out. Wasn't this chamber supposed to warm you before waking you up or something? You are really cold.

You've stepped out of the chamber. You don't seem to remember anything that happened during the year before getting frozen. You can recall everything up until some moment in the past. You can't specify which moment exactly, your memories just cut off. You don't even know why did you let freeze yourself in the first place.

Shivering from cold, you look around the room you are in. It sure does not look like a hospital where all cryogenic stuff should be located. It looks more like a military bunker. The room itself contains 5 other stasis chambers, only one of them is closed, the rest are opened and empty. There is some machinery in the corner and a computer connected to it. In the past you were an engineer, you sure do know your way around circuits and cables, using this machinery won't be a problem for you given that it's working. There is a sliding metal door with a lever next to it. To the right of the doors, there is a desk with documents scattered all over it and littering part of the floor around it. The whole room is illuminated by a bright red emergency light.

The clothes you have on yourself were designed for people treated by cryostasis. They are not warm at all, you should find something else to wear if you don't want to catch a cold.

Examine documents on desk and mentally slap yourself for thinking you will catch a cold from being cold, viruses are not transmitted by a lack of temperature, you're an engineer, you know how temperatures work.

Hm.

Go briefly look through the documents, then take a look at the other pod. If the person or thing presumably within isn't obviously dead, ie. no head or ripped open, read the documents you deem relevant more carefully before checking the computer.

You cannot get the virus from temperature, yes, but if the virus is already in you, you are more likely to show symptoms if you are cold, since the immune system can be weakened by this.

"Oh Daniel, sleeping on biology classes did you no good"

You approach the desk and start briefly looking through documents. You have found three pages that you think are interesting. First one lists all patients that has ever entered these stasis chambers. Oddly enough, according to this document there should be at least 50 chambers. And there is your name here. This documents says that you are patient #251, and where yours waking date should be, there is a 'SPECIAL CASE' written instead. The second document lists all repairs done on these chambers and the interesting part is that, the last repair was done in 2020. You are quite sure that you've gone under stasis somewhere in 2018. The last page tells you what that 'SPECIAL CASE' actually means. There is a list of patients that wanted to wake up not on specific date, but if something happened. Sadly, there are only patients from 101 to 200 and you can't find another documents that would list your number range. Rest of the documents is just irrelevant stuff that gets boring after the first 5 seconds of reading.

You come over to that closed chamber. You can't really look inside and opening these metal doors without a proper tool is problematic, not to mention the cold radiating from it that hurts your fingers as soon as you touch it. Crowbar would be enough to open it.

You check the computer in the corner of the room. Basically, this machinery looks like a server or a data-base, that can be accessed through the computer next to it. Pressing power button yields no result, it's not working.

Check that it is powered, if not look for where the rooms power comes from.
Because using a fucking crowbar is just going to get us killed.

+1 there must be a way to open the door from the inside, after all who ever put the cryo chambers here cares about there contents.

Also, its burning our fingers touching the thing. It stands to reason that the doors are insulated, so how cold is it going to be when open?
