As Hilde followed Martyn out the door, she noticed that he was deep in thought.

"So whit ye thinking about, Martyn?"

Martyn blinked, glancing back at the woman.

"Ah... Just the usual.  Working and worrying.  Defenses, equipment, targets, escape routes, et cetera."

"Trying to prepare for as much as I can and trying to keep as many of the townspeople from getting killed by a few bastards with their blades pointing the wrong way."

He shrugs.

"Well, amongst other personal things.  Do me a favor and tell me if you see any nobleman's retinue passing through the town.  Probably unlikely at this stage, but couldn't hurt to keep an eye out."

"'Spose it's yer job, though. Dinnae think ah'l find anyhing fer ye, but ah'l try."

Martyn was suddenly quite glad he was wearing armor.

"All I can ask for.  Thanks again."

Lian crouches down further and takes a moment to listen in. The conversation wasn't close enough to cut through the ambiance of the woods.
: There has to be a vantage somewhere... Lian's grip loosened on her sword, and she looked back at her comrades again. She raised her off hand up in a halting gesture, pointed to the ground, then to her ear. She didn't waste a moment after to slowly pad off towards the voices in a different angle, hoping to reach a point where she can hear, and perhaps see them more clearly.

With a slight grimace, Aneira nodded. Placing her back against a tree, she waved for Alexios to back up a few steps. No sense in having the healer be right in the line of fire.

@Scouting Party: You are now on the edge of the forest with few trees to hide you from the owners of the voices. You catch only a glance of them but it is enough to see that they are armed and that they appear deserters though you don't know if they're part of a gang or not as with your quick glance you did not see if they had markings. They continue with their conversation, seemingly unaware of your presence.

"I never said it was stupid, Garick. With our partnership we'll easily overwhelm the mercs stationed here. Then we'll just double-cross the idiots and the town will be all ours!"

I still don't like that we have to rely on the bandits just to take a simple border town. Are their defenses really that strong?

Yes you idiot! Do you know how many bands of bandits and deserters alike have been turned away, tails between their legs? Divided we fall but together we rise. That hasn't changed just because we deserted.

I guess you're right...

@Baricade Party: There in no noble's retinue in sight; however, you notice a black haired, green robed youth who certainly looks out of place compared to the mercs and villagers. What's more, you're certain he wasn't here yesterday and he's headed in your direction.

Hilde tapped Martyn on the shoulder, before whispering to him.

"'Ey, ye seen that geezer befare?"

She nodded slightly at the approaching youth.

Lian remained behind the last tree she could use for cover.
: Definitely hostile. Now... Is it just the two of them? Lian turned back to Aneira and signaled her to follow up. Maybe, if they were lucky, they could neutralize one of them and interrogate the other. Provided it really was just two of them. She risked one last peek around her cover to scan their mark's surroundings.

Martyn pulls his hood over his head.  Not that it was likely anyone would recognize him by sight out here, but there was no point taking risks.

"I don't think so, no.  Any idea who he is?"

With a nod, Aniera followed after Lian. Slowly pulling back on the bow string, she aimed carefully at one of the men talking. Raising an eyebrow at Lian, she gestured with her head towards the man, hoping to see if she was ready for an attack.

Lian didn't even bother looking over to Aneira, only lowering her head some. A small, barely audible click is heard as clasps her sword with her off hand, loosening it ever so slightly with her thumb.

Alexios simply follows them with as much stealth as he can manage.
