Lian sighs deeply.
: "More busywork, shame." Lian made to move towards the edge of the barricades, "If we plan to ward off an attack, best start now. And for that, Martyn, you'd best help. More eyes for detail the better."

"I was planning on it."

He follows after Lian.

The mercenaries spend the rest of their shift building barricades for their side of the town. At some point both Geoffrey and Edward slip away to discuss the finer details of the contract and it isn't until the mercenaries return to the inn that they are seen again. Geoffrey explains that he warned the other mercenary groups about the impending attack and that he expects an attack during the night or morning. With this in mind everyone sleeps with their weapons at the ready.

Chapter 1: Sarles Under Seige

The mercenaries of Godhand and their new employer sleep soundly through the night, the deserters seem to know a night attack leaves them equally disadvantaged and hold off attacking. However, once the sun rises that changes and alarm bells ring from every gate, save the gate in the west. That does not mean there are no enemies there however, the sentry may have been slain, or something worse.

The mercenaries rush outside in time to see three groups marching towards them with what appears to be the remains of their troops. The fate of the other mercenaries are unknown, but that isn't the main concern right now. The important thing to do right now is to drive off the deserters, or in the very least survive until the help Edward claims to be on their way arrives. Amidst the impending chaos a hooded woman can be seen heading in the direction of the mercenaries.

Martyn took stock of the situation.  No attack from the west side; either the bandits were holding back for now or had been cowed by yesterday's display.  Large groups of deserters coming from the north and south and another group of bandits from the east.  The town was surrounded on at least three sides, and Godhand's support was either tied up in other parts of town or had already been wiped out.  The peasant spearman closed his eyes and cursed.

"Damn it!"

He opened his eyes again, focusing on the situation at hand.  They were at a disadvantage, but they still had a job to do, and Martyn was no stranger to combat in the streets against a superior force.

"I need some support.  Alexios, Aneira, warn the villagers and then come with me.  We need to put these bastards down before they set to looting."

With that, Martyn moves to 6, 13.

Twirling his lockpicks, Ekul considered his role in all of this. Not being the most skilled combatant in the lot, his objective was clear.

"War fund procurer on his way."

Ekul moves to 9,7

Hilde figured she would be going with the rest, then. Alex was a competent healer to his own credit, himself. All she could do is help Ekul and Lian.

"Lian, hen, I'll be right behind ye. Yell if yer needing help."

Hilde moves to 8,9.

Refreshed, Ekul moves from 7,9 to 9,7 (Yes, I got the x and y coordinates done wrong in the earlier post.)

The hooded woman seemed to pause and listen to the wind.

"Ah, I see..." She said gently. "So it is these who must meet a wretched fate."

Catching a glimpse of someone peering out the door of the nearvy domicile, she walked to 2,2 and spoke to the house people.

"There is blood on the wind... the innocent should bar their doors."

Gorog danced for his partner in crime fighting!

Quote from: Dancing
Ekul can move again.

Sarrari happens upon a family of three who, until she explained the situation, were quiet fearful of her. They thank her and as she's about to leave the child hands her a key.

"That should open the door to the storehouse. I hid something in a chest inside there but you probably need it more than I will. Don't worry, it isn't locked."

Got a Door Key!

~~Enemy Turn~~

Kain's men charge at the mercenaries, one of them getting close enough to stab at Martyn.

Quote from: Soldier D Vs Martyn

Martyn Counters!

And shortly after two axemen approach Kain.

"What the hell are you doing here Garick!?"

"Well we tried the west gate but the bastards barricaded it so well it was faster to come over here. I sent some of my guys north too."

"Can't you just go over to Dwayne's side?"

"Well me an' Dahzel are already here. I'll just send the rest of my guys over there, happy?"

Kain just groaned in response.

"Alright Dahzel, let's avenge Gorick and then take this town. We'll live like kings, you and I!"

The rest of the underlings advance, though they seem hesitant to recklessly charge ahead.

~~Ally Turn~~

"I'll take point up here."

"I guess I'll go south then."

As the battle draws on what sounds like flapping can be heard from overhead. All of the deserters ignore it thinking it to be some ploy until a winged horse lands next to Geoffrey. Few of them have seen a pegasus before and are temporarily awed until a shout from one of the bowmen boasts that he can take it down with one shot. Despite being laughed at, the bowman managed to get the rest of deserters to turn their attention back to the battle.

Lian jumped to a ready stance as the pegasus landed but, on noticing the rider wasn't showing hostile intent, relaxed.
: "Ah, and to whom do we owe the pleasure?" The sword fighter's eyebrow raised briefly.

Martyn sees an opening and darts in, attacking the soldier.

"Perhaps a few more arrows to the belly will teach him."
