Non-Vampire Dwarven Murder
« on: June 18, 2014, 03:59:46 pm »

So, one of my miners was tantrumming and punched another one in the skull, shattering the brain. Even though this happened in front of a ton of other dwarves, and the corpse of the victim has been interred, the murder hasn't shown up on my justice screen. Do murders by non-vampires just not get punished?

I've definitely had non-vampire murders reported before*.  One particularly vicious tantrum spiral resulted in over a dozen dwarves crammed into my sheriff's office, clamouring to report the same crimes.

Of course, if nobody actually saw the fight, it may just have gone down as a tragic mining accident.

*I use the Masterwork mod, but I don't think that affects such things

Sorry, update: apparently, the murder just didn't get reported until just now. Conviction is now possible.

Dwarven chart of crime severity (in my forts)

(Most severe)
1. Not making an adamantine nest boxes when mandated (punishment: death)
2. Exporting stuff the mayor really likes (death)
3. (other violated mandates here)
.....
99. Being a vampire (locked up for a season or two)
97. Punching a kitten to death (beating)
98. Destruction of property (beating)
...
1099. Murder (write out 1000 times: I must not embed my fist in Urist McCacliumdeficient's skull)

Other than tantrums, what can trigger dwarven murder? I've had two dwarves commit murder at this point who were not tantruming or even close to doing so. They also weren't feeding vampires.

But berserkers can't commit murder or be murder victims, berserkers are enemies and are killed on sight without compunction or mercy (or perhaps with mercy, I've had berserkers put down with a single bolt between the eye, and berserkers dismembered and gutted until they bled to death)

I've had 4 non-Vampire murders in my current fort, and 3 of them occurred in the barracks. I would suspect that dwarves kill each other whilst sparring.

^ Not possible. Every sparring strike 'lightly taps the target' instead of inflicting actual damage.

What about wrestling throws into walls?

Not every, though accidents are extremely unlikely.
I've once gave two embark dwarves axes and made the spar, no protective equipment was made yet and one of them got a severed nerve.
And yes, if for some reason they decide to go wrestling instead of biting and scratching, they can drive opponents head into ground sometimes, which is bad of they don't have helmet on.
