Briggs gets up and, straightening his slightly-tattered deep blue Navy issue coat, heads over to the table, mumbling about beer money.

Gethron hesitated, but moved over to the other table. He kept his distance and made sure his body was as covered as it could be.

"... and that is when ol' Higgins and me destroyed the entire Nebulon navy! With only half our cannons and some space whale grease, we had them running for their lives! But I was just a lad back then, Higgins here taught me everything I know, right Higgins?" he nods at young man, who looks barely twenty years old, who just puts his face down on his palm and shakes.

This goes on for a couple hours. Most of the stories seem legitimate, but often the man appears to forget something and tells the story again, details changing. It's hard to imagine that someone showing those signs of senility is captain of anything. But the other men still seem to defer to him, so either he's got some authority over them or they're just humoring him.

Eventually, he beams and says "hey, I know, you seem like a capable bunch! Honest folk, I know 'em when I see 'em. We have some important cargo to be delivered, all kinds of shiny stuff and gems, but we need an escort. Do you have a ship? Maybe we can hire you. My name is Earlston by the way, Captain Earlston. Hey Higgins, can you handle the paperwork?"

This seems to startle the man-who-keeps-being-called-Higgins. "I don't... well, er... are you sure it's a good idea?"

Gethron found himself frequently rolling his mismatched eyes at the tall tales. Thankfully, the job itself seemed like a milk run. He nudged Wade and whispered in the other man's ear.

"Whatcha think? Seems like it could be a pretty easy job, depending on where they're going."

Captain Wade turns to his gunner.

"Ah, yes, thank you for reminding me of that other very lucrative job offer that we most definitely do have. But Captain Earlston here is an upstanding gentleman who could use our protection, so, as very righteous and moral people, we will of course lend him our aid, so long as he fair compensates us, keeping in mind we're turning down another more profitable job I cannot stress enough totally exists, and the place we're headed to isn't to far out of the way."

Briggs elbows the captain, and whispers "Tone down the desperation there, skip."

Not-Higgins nervously looks away towards the bar. You notice that another man stares back, then shrugs subtly.

"Ok... sure, there'll be no problem with that. We'll just use a standard contract form..."

"Excellent!" proclaims Earlston. "It shouldn't take more than a week of your time! I assure you will be fairly compensated, our employer has assured us that it is vital that our cargo reaches its destination, so money is no issue!"

"Captain... please, let me handle this, you have more important things to do." He presents Wade with a piece of parchment, which looks like any average hiring document. It states things like payment upon delivery, the fee doesn't seem to be anything extraordinary, enough to cover expenses and leave what could be considered a good profit for honest folk. For a pirate, barely a week of wenching and drinking.

"I want to help you, honestly I do, but, like I said, the other offer was very lucrative, so maybe you could do just a smidge better?"

The captain looks at the man at the bar who shrugged and gestures toward him.

"Who's he, a friend of yours?"

"I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about." He responds. The other man is now nowhere to be seen.

"Right. Anyway, if you could even just give us a little money up front to buy some supplies, we would surely appreciate it."

The man, which you assume by now is the first mate, grumbles slightly, but relents. "Fine, fine. It's not like we can't afford it. We'll throw some extra in advance, try to use some of it to outfit properly for the job. That will be off the books, of course."

He hands Captain Wade a couple of bank notes as an Advance for the Job. You think you won't have any trouble cashing on them on most ports in the region.

"Ah, thank you."

He addresses his crew. "Gentlemen, what do you say we head off and discuss the necessary supplies and upgrades we'll need to purchase for this upcoming trip?"
