Challenge: Kobold Fortress
« on: June 16, 2014, 07:18:21 pm »

Got this idea for a new challenge, one unlike any other.
Establishing a working fortress...with kobolds.
Unable to wear armor captured from goblin attackers, it's slim pickings for the kobold military.
You will, of course, have to mod kobolds in the raws to make them playable.

Kobold should be stealthy to invaders.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. I'm going to mod kobolds to be barely playable without changing them too drastically, and keeping them in the same feel as vanilla kobolds. Then, post.
One moment. I'm thinking fishing, butchery, and probable eating of sapient things. Basically, anything made of meat = food. If [Deity] wanted us to eat plants, He'd have made them taste like Elf.

I wonder how egg-laying is going to come into play here? I recall there being a problem with sentient egg layers, do I need to have these guys give live birth?

:: UPDATE ::
I think I've got it working in a couple test runs for modding functionality. Also, removed clothing. Decided to give them the ability to embark with picks and quivers, so they can have something to build necessary workshops with and will also hunt. I thought mining would be better than woodcutting. That seems too... civilized compared to digging holes. Removed pick minimum size so that kobolds could use them. I tried to avoid it, but they also have access to leatherworking and tanning, since they need quivers.

Basically, we are tiny, naked, flesheating lizard-vagrants whose only shelter and comfort comes from a coarse hole in the ground. Also, they're untrustworthy. So don't give them your drink to hold.

I'm still at work, update will come tonight.

::EDIT::

Can you think of anything else I can add to these guys? Ideas of any kind will probably be added without consideration of the consequences.

Don't have picks, just embark on a cave :D. You can still make stuff out of... clay?

They would need to have a kiln, and charcoal, and woodcutting, and woodburning etc etc. Is problem.

Ok, so. Eggs should not be a problem, given the proper management. Time to give this a go.

You can use clay to build a workshop (or silty loam or sandy clay or whatever)...the charcoal would be an issue, but if you could get some from the traders it should help...

There are no traders. Kobold's don't trade, but they do steal. This makes them enemies to everyone. Also, all four other races are in range.

It is going to be a fun time in best camp.

Sir, you misunderstand. There will be no aids to help them survive. Nothing but the tools they brought with them and their absolute willingness to eat anything that moves. Also, they're naked, and that has to count for something.

Seriously, they cant even replace picks. This is going to be awesome.

I did make one last change: They have a chief. He should function as site leader and commander, and therefore our little cannibal urchins should be able to be formed into squads with the addition of pack leaders for militia captains.

So, any votes on where we embark? I not doing anything evil, these guys have enough trouble without reanimation and death murks.

Also, removed picks due to an apparent misunderstanding of clay.

They would need to have a kiln, and charcoal, and woodcutting, and woodburning etc etc. Is problem.

You just need 1 firesafe material to build a kiln. Then you can gather clay and use it to build things - not in the kiln, but workshops and constructions and stuff.
