I'll throw my name into the orc vote pile if that is still being decided. I tried humans for a bit, but didn't really fit my playstyle, I will give them another shot once they are polished a bit. Kobolds were fun for the working with less aspect, I rather like the warlocks and their making their population from scratch, my succubi playthroughs tend to end when the caravans spontaneously combust and set fire to the fort. Gnomes I haven't played too much, though I like the concept of the omni weapon and upgradeable gear.

Not sure if I will be as active on the new splintfort, between workload getting increased and even more distractions at home. I have added Warsword Conquest to my list of distractions, so if I do any RP contributions they will probably be heavily influenced by Warhammer orcs. :P

21st Obsidian, 143

Frosty the snowgoon and all his friends are dead. When they collapsed, just like the last one they melted rather quickly and left behind nothing but bifrost. I also finally got a shot at our scaley pal in the caverns.







[It was... Rather anticlimactic. One shot. Quickest organic FB fight I have had. Seriously.]

I also had a word with Dailm, asked where his gauntlets were, said he didn't have any. So I've put in a word with PSI to see if we can't fix that. Hopefully he'll have his gauntlets by the end of the week.

23rd Obsidian, 143

I got a bad feeling about the area across the river. Went to Rakust and got permission to lead a scouting party there, to see what we'll find. It'll probably be a day trip though with rain moving in.

We came back in. All the noise I was worried about across the river was just a bunch of overgrown flying squirrels. But... We found out when we got back that, that Urist was dead. Killed by a frost giant. He was tapping along on his merry way bringing in some ammo that got left out, and two of them jumped him.

The drow confirmed what Fenglel said: They tried to save him, they really did, but these bastards are just too solid. It took them a few moments too long to kill the first and by that point the other was already bringing its fist down on Urist's head.



We started in on them, and they were sloppy. Every time one threw down a fist, one of us would hop on the arm and go for the head. Then I saw him: Big mother fucker, tall as the storehouse near the depot. Vare, one of the feared Worldender Frost Giants. Son of a bitch had a massive zweihander and a 'buckler' the size of my upper body.





I told the others to hang back; I wanted that asshole. He lead the attack, so he's the one who really killed Urist. When I cut it's left leg out from under it it was still cocky. Rightly so I guess, since even on his knees he was a good bit taller than me.

So I cut it all the way off with the worked bone of his godsdamned kin.

Then he had the nerve, no, the sheer audacity to say an elf could fight better than me! After I'd lopped one of his hands off and sent that oversized buckler crashing into the muck with it! So I kept chopping until the asshole stopped moving. Came back to hear Fenglel had spotted a snatcher and rather graciously accepted his donation of his severed head and big silk bag.


28th Obsidian, 143

The gauntlets are made, now just gotta wait on the extra plating! Dailm will now be just as hard to kill as me or Fergus.

One of the wards... Burned out. Just kinda... Yeah. Burned out is about right. Left behind a lead pick. So... That's a thing. I guess this means all the wards are going to burn out one by one in the next year or so.

6th Granite, 144

Someone's finally making that stupid spell tome so Tenderroast can join the school of fire. The guy won't shut up about it at dinner, he's so excited about it.

12th granite, 144

I went down to the Armory to ask what the hold up was with Dailm's gauntlets and saw something that lead to me punching PSI in the face. I didn't mean to do it, but my reflex at the sight of steel we need for armor being wasted reinforcing fucking gold.



GOLD. WE DONT NEED GOLD PLATE GAUNTLETS. NOBODY FUCKING NEEDS GOLD PLATE GAUNTLETS.

I even flat out insulted her too. I asked her what that fuck she was thinking, and then told her I'm marking them to be melted and I don't care what Rakust or she thinks. That was an inexcusable waste of materials we have in very short supply on equipment she should have already melted down.


17th Granite, 144

Welp, got a ration of shit from... Well everybody about PSI. Actually everybody except the militia, Nidor, and PSI was pissed at me. More for smacking her than anything. PSI said she was half asleep when she took the gauntlets to upgrade them so my hissy fit was slightly justified and accurate. Her brain was more focused on finishing the job and going to bed than what the gauntlets she was using were. Wasn't happy about getting a metal plated fist to her forehead, but she forgave me for it since materials did get wasted on her watch.

Nidor said that he understood why I flipped out since steel is a commodity here that he only gets a trickle of compared to the bronze. But he also pointed out that the drow have left us with a good bit of bloodsteel, and that PSI is working on making enough gauntlets for the whole militia. May not be able to plate them, but it'll be more than enough for most of what we end up fighting.


18th Granite, 144

Another frosty showed up and got riddled with arrows for his troubles by the drow. Damned thing wouldn't die under the hail so we had to head out and finish it.

Apparently there's some cave swallows hanging out outside the cavern barracks. Big ones. Vexxy wanted to make sure I knew in case anyone went missing.

25th Granite, 144



Someone made off with the magmalings and stuffed them in some big tank, or so I'm told. Evidently the  Baron's looking for someone who has at least a basic grasp of Alchemy as well, what with Arcvasti unable to do that stuff anymore due to being dead and all.

I wonder who they had make the floodgates? I mean I'm pretty irritated they used steel for it, but I can understand why, and they aren't exactly the most terrible things ever made. One is quite well-made and the other is rather exceptional!


3rd Slate, 144

One of those birds tried to get into the fort and Cerol, one of Vexxy's swordsdwarves, took it down. Inside Shorast's dining room. Never seen a bookkeeper so pissed before and I will say Journal, I didn't  laugh at how red he got. And it was easily the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Now that I think of it, I'm fairly certain his face got about the same shade of red as the blood splattered wall and carpet.

8th Slate, 144



Now, I'm no alchemist, but I don't think the magmalings are working quite as intended.

Apparently it was a side effect of the “Make these things start pouring earth blood” command.... Spell... Whatever the hell that thing in the lab is. A little bit sort of spews up at first. Now it's just a matter of waiting that little overflow out and installing the needed magma furnaces. Who needs those fancy pump stacks and other assorted plumbing when they can have alchemists (or two very inept ones in this case but still,) provide magma with a little living ball of goo?

Anyway, the oddball Gumka is in charge of recasting the steel ingots into special blocks for the job, since we don't have anything else handy. Bit of a waste, but I can live with it in this case.


26th Slate, 144

Another day, another clean-up operation. Since we have a surplus of workers at the moment, Rakust has them cleaning up the piles of dead vermin, hunks of semi-solid frosty limbs, and the freshly ground-up leprechauns that went and got themselves mulched on the moat-traps.



He also wants to fisherdwarves to make some bigger nets to fish out all these corpses from the river. That's what... Four years of dead guy all jammed up in there? Also vaguely remember talk of the crafting wing getting an addition, something about dyes and paint, didn't really pay attention. Was more concerned about getting sloshed and playing poker with my squad last night.


15th Felsite, 144

Elf diplomat was sighted, so the caravan isn't long away now.

Some kind of strange horse Vexxy calls a Cauchemar killed one of the engineers today. A weaver was fleeing up the stairs and told her squad that “Steamedgreif” had slain Shulmik by stomping on her head. And unfortunately, nearly like Mr Frog before her, one of the Paints was damn near killed because they'd rushed forward.

Cerol was half dead when Erush, Vexxy, and Urvad got to her, according to the reports, and that damned horse-beast delivered a punishing kick to Erush. Emtan says she may have mild brain damage, but if she hadn't had that leather training helmet, she'd be dead.

Urvad struck the killing, and only, blow on the beast, slicing it in half and drenching the ground in guts and blood.





We have two of these vicious cave-horses caged, and it was fetching one to replace a trap's that cost Shulmik her life and got two of my soldiers nearly killed. And I have yet to find out if they'll live.

Cerol and Erush both have several broken bones, with Cerol having had both legs and arms broken, several ribs, and a punctured lung. Can only hope the poor girls heal up and that any head damage isn't too severe.


5th Hematite, 144



An attempt to mend Cerol's wounds ended in a complication that took the aspiring soldier's life. Sad to see her go, since she seemed most accepting of being placed in the squad, but such is life (and death) for us soldiers.

7th Hematite, 144

Got to go deal with another batch of shitflingers, which is always... Less than appealing. Pretty sure a turd hit Dailm square in his helmet's viewport.

17th Malachite, 144

Whole fort's abuzz with activity journal. A couple shields got named, Reksas, and... I forget who else's. Paint's being produced from that dye Erib insists on buying, which is freeing up bags (something the farmhands are grateful for,) and some of the trainers are actually going to try to domesticate the freaking cauchemars, on the grounds we have a breeding pair, apparently. And several others.

The Mountainheart Alter is also being torn down and a fresh blueprint researched; apparently the Count and Mayor both didn't like the fact it was off-center by an urist, which the sorcerers say could lead to complications (ranging from the magic equivalent of just getting a fart instead of earth-based arcane abilities, all the way to demonic possession.) A Black Caiman is now called “Trademunched,” in honor of it tearing a kobold's head off, and speaking of trade, the road network, thanks to a wonderful surge of building material thanks to a load of unoccupied masons, is getting expanded!

Means more approaches we'll need to defend, but hey, I'm not complaining. Less excuse for merchants to bypass the place.

There's also that brewer Stakud. Been acting pretty odd, secretive in fact. Keeps drawing tanner workshops but won't take over any of the ones we have. Shame he (or was it she?) might end up dead soon, cause Stakud's been a good brewmaster.


14th Galena, 144

The diplomat from Omon is here to exchange pleasantries. We'll need to be sharp for the dog-rider onslaught that's due.

So much for trade this summer. The goblins jumped the ass-end of the Omon caravan, killed a merchant, horse, and trashed a wagon, and took out two guards. And apparently the human guild rep had a relative among the  dead, since she flipped her shit. She's roaming around the fortress guards somewhere now I think.

In any case, the caravan guards, barring two dead and one wounded, drove off most of the goblins and Dailm tracked down the other two who slipped by them. Word from Vexxy also tells me she's prepping her team to go after some frogman tribals across the cavern lake and some cave-fish ones on our side, just needs a path dug to the former.


18th Galena, 144

That sorcerer Bim stopped a kidnapping! Heh, earned herself some brownie points to the parents around the fort. Fergus was nearby and killed the bastard, but the fact remains Bim kept the son of a bitch from making off with a kid.

9th Sandstone, 144

Magma forges are getting set up now, and the so-called “Riverrun Economic Investment Center” is almost finished; just needs the coin press, which should be built any day now. Dunno why the count insisted on such an over-fancy name, coulda just called it a bank like a normal person.

5th Limestone, 144

Dingo man tribe decided it wanted to know what swords and bear teeth felt like going through their torsos. Made one hell of a mess out by the storehouse. And with it being the time of month it is, we're on lookout for goblins, orcs, and... Well, whatever else stupid enough to try and as some of the more religious snake cultists would say, “defile this holy waterway of Rulush.”

Starting to think we also got some of the religious crazies, not just frauds, debtors, habitual clowns, and death row inmates. And I swaer to god if I find out who had a moleweasel shit in my boots last night I'll gut'em in front of the godsdamned Fortress GUard, Rulush, and everyone else. Because that's the eighth time this month.


11th Limestone, 144



One of the Cavern Speardwarves was killed bringing up a captured cave spider early this morning. A cave crawler jumped him and while he tried to fight, once it got a hold of him it was over. Vexxy and her squad found him half-eaten and in at least three pieces. Some have taken to calling the monster “Friendzealous” when discussing the incident.

Her cousins Zolath and Ilral blame me obviously, some line about “should have had the others patrolling more diligently” or some crap like that. What in the hell do they want from me, omniscience? I didn't even know the thing was down there or that Lokum was dead until a half hour after the fact!


12th Limestone, 144





Chaos dwarves, soldiers of their legion, lead by some fuck-all four-armed freak of nature called a “myrmidon,” and four of their so-called “patricians,” and two of those bottom-run “acrani,” wanna-be sorcerers. According to my training back north anyway.



I'm leading the Caverns, Grasses, and Darkness out. These bastards are a cruel mockery of all things dwarven, and they may have us 2 to 1 on numbers, maybe even a bit more than that, but we're fighting on home ground and three advantages: Ancient dwarven plate armor (some of us anyway,) designs not seen in only the gods know how long. Skill at arms and bellies full of rage at their unnaturalness (compared to them the shit we do is tame, revived dragon species not withstanding. I don't see any four-armed dwarves around here, do you journal?) And last and most importantly, being properly inebriated.

They don't stand a chance.




The forest was quiet as the two groups faced eachother.



Solon Zukthisoshor, Myrmidon Principes of the the Trussed Avalanche, lead the chaos dwarves. He had four arms, the result of warpstone exposure, and a snarl on his face. Most of his warriors didn't want to advance, as before them were three dwarves in what the arcani among them, had called “ancient plate” among the otherwise motley mix of leather, mail, and rigid armor.

“You and your soldiers are tresspassing. Leave this place abomination, or we will cut you down.” The leader of the defenders said, his only identifier of any kind of identity being an iron “SPL” on the dwarf's right mithril spaulder. At his left, was a dwarf with similar marking “FRG,” and to his right “DLM” Behind these three were a largely ad-hoc looking band of swordsdwarves, wearing the sorriest mix of metallic armors Solon had ever seen.

“You demand we leave and you bring so few real warriors to fight? You must be insane.” Solon said back, banging his hatchet against his shield. His fighters followed suit, banging their maces and morningstars as well.

The apparent leader shrugged and drew his blade, some of the younger chaos dwarves gasping as they saw not something as mundane as bronze or mithril, but a vibrant, shimmering blue sword. While it was no adamantine, it was clear that at least one frost giant had been felled in battle. “Tried to do this all polite like, but if you shitheads wanna die so badly we're happy to oblige. Last warning: Fuck off or you won't see your own decrepit mountainhalls ever again.” His tone had shifted to that of a common brigand himself, or at least a soldier who'd never quite grasped proper conduct.

Solon got indignant, incredulous that anyone, bifrost sword and platemail or not, would threaten chaos dwarf  legionaries. “You have the nerve, nay, AUDACITY to threaten soldiers of The Trussed Avalanche!? I'll see your head on a spike whelp!”

The commander just shook his head, and a wolfram and bronze sword both being drawn by the other two plated dwarves. “Alright then boys and girls, you heard the mutant. Let's have at them!” At this the assembled band of militiadwarves let out a chorus of shouts and rushed forwards, the chaos dwarves returning the gesture in kind.

First to fell did so to the Commander, the macedwarf's arm sliced off and bifrost blade tearing through him like he hadn't existed. He quickly claimed one of Solon's subordinate patricians as well, cutting her leg and knocking out his teeth before delivering a fatal slash to the front of her head that shredded her helmet, skull, and brain.

The second rushed for the commander, getting his nose and left leg lopped off for his trouble while the myrmidon attacked the Swordlord Onol, and roared in disbelief as the upstart got in his guard and put a sword through his lower left hand. Already two his four patricians lay dead, the commander proceeding to decapitate the second. The momentary lapse in focus would cost the gladiator, as he found himself falling to the right, his foot sailing away in a bloody arc, courtesy of a wolfram sword from behind.

Everything seemed to slow as he hit the ground, he saw the enemy commander clean another of his soldiers in half, saw a head sailing over him from somewhere out of his view, saw limbs fly, and another of the plat armored dwarves run a bronze sword through one of Solon's arcani. It had ended so fast... How could this be? He had survived the worst of the Avalanche arenas, to be killed so easily now?

He saw four of his soldiers running, one collapsing from what he assumed was pain, saw the last of his patricians felled by a dwarf no taller than a ten year old in a horrid mix of bronze, rusted iron, and leather. He was on his side by the time he'd really regained any sense of position, and was kicked over by a mithril plate boot. He saw the dwarf with the markings “DLM” standing over him now.

His mind could only muster enough to conjure an uncerimonious obituary: “Solon Quandryspider, Myrmidon of The Trussed Avalanche. Born before the current era, died on  13th Limestone, 144 killed by some lowly servant of the old gods.”

And it was so, when the wolfram blade smashed through his helm and into his brain.

The three sergeants surveyed the small blood-soaked battlefield. Astonishingly, only some mild bruising was incurred in the fighting for the Riverrun dwarves; skill really had mattered. “So,” Fenglel said, braking the silence. “How many d'you guys think got away?”

“Not a clue.” Ngithol, the youngest, said truthfully. He had been preoccupied with killing a patrician on his own.

Splint held up three plated fingers as he said “Three, I think.” His hand lowered with a bit of a rattle of plates and chain. “Welp, that'll learn'em.”

“You sure?” Ngithol asked.

Splint simply shrugged. “Hell if I know, but those three aren't gonna wanna come back after this.”

Fenglel prodded a dead patrician with her sword, speaking as she did so. “We probably  just pissed off a few of the chaos dwarves... Noble houses feels wrong, but you get the idea. We did kill four patricians.”

“And their arcane institute,” the child soldier added, pointing to one of the two dead arcani.

“Eh, so what if we piss them off. I tried to be polite and warn them not to fight. And we don't get much to do most of the year anyway.”


14th Limestone, 144





We won journal, but apparently yesterday was not without loss. A child was killed by fell monsters called shadow beasts. Two slipped through the trap line, but the Miner Zoden killed one while the Paints got the other. The child's murderer, the only shadow beast with blood on it, was captured though.

Made the production order for coffins and slabs last week seem a little... Foreboding now that I think of it.


16th Limestone, 144

Vexxy tells me the shadow beasts are starting to become a nuisance, since two more groups were spotted in the crystal caverns. I have the Paint's on watch duty in case more come crawling out of there in need of a mauling with bloodsteel.

18th Limestone, 144

The bandits are here, and this time they brought one of the shot callers.





They're mainly set up on the other side of the river, but they did have a pack of war hounds on the company caravan's asses. The dragons are topside getting water from the river, and I hope one spots the bastards so they get fried in a forest fire.

In the meantime though, I'm leading out the usual teams to deal with this. We'll wait on our side of the river for them, and drop the bastards when they try to make a crossing. But one way or another, that pirate lord's going in the dirt. Someone's also noticed that a merchant isn't looking so well, and last time that happened I had to arrange for a hunter to die. Went over the mayor and count's heads and told everyone to back off from trade unless they have something we absolutely need.


19th Limestone, 144

We're heading across the river. I've sent the Grasses and Darkness to deal with the enemy riflemen; trees should provide enough cover from incoming fire. My squad's going to cover the rear in case the other two enemy squads make a move for the bridge.

Hope you got our backs on this one Uz, I'd hate to have to bury more dwarves this week. I can already hear the gunshots.

Only one rifleman escaped. Heard a lot of shoot, then a shitload of screaming, more shooting, and then nothing. Fenglel showed up with everyone else in two and reported a crushing defeat of the enemy troops! But she also reported a fourth group of enemy soldiers somewhere to the northeast.



I asked how she knew there was more and she said she could see a small smoke column in the distance. Not sending them up to deal with it, because while that's not something I want to be held accountable for if they show up on armored horses and kill half the caravan, I want that pirate lord dead, and I'll need all hands on deck to get the bastard.

Well, it's done, and his troops' morale collapsed. Still killed a few though. We went back across after driving off or killing anyone in the remaining camps,  went to the northeast, and found the enemy camp abandoned. Must've gotten a good look from the hill of what happened to the other guys!


12th Opal, 144. 12th. Godsdamned. Opal.

The merchants have finally left, leaving piles of vomit from whatever they had behind them. Nobody got sick, thank the gods. Oh, and Jaywalker made a sand drum apparently. Kinda hard to get excited about that though; everyone else seems pretty happy for him though.



Oh, and Stakud finished a.... Well, to be perfectly honest I dunno what it is, looks kinda... Gnomey I guess? I'm giving it to Erib either way. Made of leather, sort of, so it's perfect for a bowdwarf.

8th Obsidian, 144

A musket and relevant ammo store is being dug out tomorrow morning. Be good to get that ammo and those guns stored away. Most of those damned moleweasels and all the female cragtooths are getting stuffed into cages to be shipped off next time we get a caravan that'll take wood. It'll be nice not to have the things constantly under foot and packing the hunter's lodge.

The cauchemars are being moved into the cragtooth pen up in the sand layers, mostly because one might be dead from starvation. A door's being put in there though, just in case, but from what I'm told they're being amazingly well behaved. Guess they're just gettin' that good.


11th Obsidian, 144

Drow are here, coming from the east road. Should be here by sun down, so the count's got people bringing whatever junk is laying around to pawn off on them for bloodsteel and whatever else. Vexxy also told me about some rather nasty looking critters called “Silverfish” down by the cavern outpost, nasty table-sized things she says range far and wide to find food for their nests; asked what harm could nesting fish be, and then she brought me down to have a look at the things.



Turns out, the name's a tad misleading. Since there's a whole mess of them, I'm having the cavern outpost locked down for now. Those damned things look like they'd tear a bloody swath through most of the population, and I can't spare anyone to deal with them until the caravan's to the depot.

Oh, and one of the dragons caught a frost giant near the storehouse. Gave him a nice blast of horrible painful, fiery death. Remains to be seen if the half-dozen bursts of freaking fire don't nick the depot or something.

Woke up late this morning, heard there was a bit of a tussle with some frosties. Things went well, even if everyone had the pants scared off them. From what I understand, trade also went astoundingly well!

Happy New Year Journal!

Things have been going decently around here as of late, discounting the ward burning out and leaving behind a... Lead katana I think? Anyway, I'm sending the Soaked Darkness down the to caves to help Vexxy with that little silverfish problem tomorrow afternoon. Shouldn't be too much effort for two squads combined. Gotta give everyone time to recover from the hangovers from the new years celebrations after all!


2nd Granite, 145

Apparently the bugs pissed off to go bother someone else. Shame, the Darkness were looking forward to getting to stretch their sword arms.

6th Slate, 145

Things have been quite, barring a frost giant who was smashing windows near the Fine Goods shop. Dealt with it myself. We also have a surplus of creatures taking up space, among them the child-killing shadow beast, so a lever's being hooked up and all of them jammed into one cage (it's all we can manage without them running amok mauling people.)

More mithril plate armor is also being manufactured for The Grasses, and separate bloodsteel suits are going to be produced for the Paints, the Fell Buckets, and Soaked Darkness. Once we uh, get the the bloodsteel that is. And Tenderroast is heading down to the mage school to join officially.



He'll get to be a pyromancer in pretty short order. Just hope he doesn't manage to light the larder on fire by accident or something equally stupid.


20th Felsite, 145

Get to have us some fun today! Spotted an ambush party, mistook the things for ghouls when I saw the length of their arms: Scavenger trolls. Plus a band of (probably dog-riding,) goblins across the river! We're heading out now.

One hell of a fight.

Lien's pet mastiff and Vexxy's lizard were killed, a fish cleaner got mauled, two more ambush parties killed most of the gate animals, and the elves are just about out of ammo. Godsdamned barghests are really annoying, and takes more to knock them down than a goblin.

But, aside from inconvenience, an injured fish cleaner, and a few dead animals, we came out ahead. One of the fortress guards got blooded as well; rescued the fish cleaner (who I found out afterwards was another guard who panicked.)


17th Hematite, 145

Thanks to the herbalism lab, steel is no longer an issue and Fenglel's squad is now packing full plate armor! I gotta say, the suits look great! I remember hearing one of the chaos dwarves say to that four-armed psycho that we're using what's known as “ancient plate.” I like that, sounds... Intimidating actually. And I think I have enough clout to have bifrost swords forged for everyone, if they want them.

Oh, and the mayor lost her keys and the elf treasury master went insane. Violently. The same Fortress Guardsdwarf that saved his squadmate was the closest available one with a weapon, and he took care of business. A little unfortunate, but hey. We've had worse.

The schizo outbursts a few years back and child-killing shadow beast come to mind.


7th Malachite, 145

The Paints are starting to get a trickle of the bloodsteel plate I promised'em. Gauntlets right now, but that's just as important as any other armor piece. Possibly one of the most important after head protection. You can survive a gut stabbing or shallow cut to the leg. Can't survive your shield hand being skewered or your head smashed in.

22nd Malachite, 145

Saw a face at dinner I hadn't seen in months! Tenderroast is going to help with trash melting for a month or so before he heads into the fire alter. Good to see his time tapping his inner mage was a success!

6th Galena, 145

Seems we have a mascot, of the apparitional sort. Says his name is Medtob, and he's an axedwarf. Strange, considering I could've sworn we found everyone's bodies where needed. If anything, I'd have though that missing fisherdwarf would be the one roaming the halls but instead it's some scrub I've never even heard of.

Also that dragon Alacore was out getting water in the river and decided the local giant hornets were annoying her. They were (emphasis on were,) a drone and worker from what I could see, since I was out for a stroll during one of our sparring breaks. Now... Well, I saw two burning husks fall out in the woods somewhere, and now there's a forest fire. Pretty sure a chunk of road got destroyed by the flame burst too.

Ah well, safely contained on the far side of the river, and the fire'll probably save us the trouble of having to clear up the bodies. Took the others damn near a month to clear up all the chopped up goblin chunklets and dead barghests, and we still haven't gotten around to clearing up the dead bandits.


8th Galena, 145

Humans are here again little papery friend. Since the depot was torn down to get all the shit cleared out of it, they had the wagons bypass us from what I can tell. But frankly, I could do without having to protect them, but they're the only ones for another season who'll take the damned cages full of cragtooths and moleweasles. Saw the carpenters working on a makeshift depot while where the old one was gets bricked over. Apparently they'd be using some old dry patch of dirt and the Count felt that it needed “proper mason-work flooring” or some other nonsense.

Some kind of ruckus over to the east, so I'm sending Fenglel's squad to deal with whoever it is. Didn't hear barking, so probably not goblins.

Apparently it was a snatcher, a 5 swordsmen, and a lasher. Fenglel says Tekkud spotted the snatcher and chopped the poor bastard in half like it was an after thought! Brings a tear to my eye knowing I've made better soldiers than what the incompetent bastards we call generals ever could.

They also ran into a second group, half dozen lashers  lead by a swordsman. Went about as well for the bandits as you'd expect journal. Also doubt any trade's going to get done; nobody seems to want to finish building that damned depot, but just as well.


5th Limestone, 145

Well, we have a depot now. Might be a bit late to trade with the humans, but hey. At least now we got us a flashy black bronze one instead! Also saw some languars picking through the old bandit camps. They can take what they please from there for all I care. Besides, everyone's focusing on clearing up all the bodies and such.

Wonder how unnerving it is for invaders to see a dwarven fort that isn't surrounded by a wasteland full of corpses and dried blood? Er, charred south part of the area not withstanding of course.


11th Limestone, 145

Nidor's reopened that talk of a monastery, something about reopening immigration to attract pilgrims willing to fight and work for the gods' glory or some hogwash like that. Hope the dwarf's not getting super holy or anything, devoutly religious folk tend to be a little... Off.

12th Limestone, 145

Don't need to worry about Nidor, cleaned me out during poker after dinner last night, smug bastard.



Well helloooooooooooo wasteland, it is I, your lord and master, Splint!

So, we got a small update, lots of stuff happened, bunch of stuff happened! First, we'll start off with the military/general combat: We now have two squads fully outfitted with mithril plate/chain armor, and Vexxy's squad has 3/5 of theirs, composed of bloodsteel (and bronze mail shirts/hoods)! We lost a pair of rather unfortunate soldiers, both cavern troopers, and some workers might have been injured. Oh, and the dragons earned their keep in two ways: Incinerating a frosty, leaving only his bifrost bones behind for us to make into armor or sharp things, and setting the woods on the south side of the river on fire and turning 2/3 of it into a charred wasteland for most of  year 145.

We now have that one guy I vaporized to end his damned combat log spam haunting the place, and the list of dead things is past the point of finding his name easily. Hope everyone likes the idea of a ghostly mascot axedwarf.

The “Mountainhome Market” is now largely built, save for Urist's Steel Emporium and the workshops themselves, since we couldn't buy licenses last year due to illness, and the bank is built, complete with coin press! We also have the farms no longer producing; we have so much damned food that it'd be a waste to make more. Plus I don't feel like expanding the larder, but I'll have to anyway I'm sure. Everyone seems to be housed as well, so once furnishings are sorted I'm going to reopen immigration permits.

The dining hall is finally, at long last complete, space of a light magic alter's been dug out, Tenderroast is finally on the way to becoming a pyromancer, two artifacts got made, and we have functioning magma forges too! I also have the platinum to make the last statue needs to complete Khaziraad's earth school training. And steel, by way of the steeloak farms, is no longer too much of a rarity! It's being devoted to producing plate armor all the same, but still.

And more freaking rusty iron than I know what to do with. Seriously, any ideas? Cause I got nothing. Also willing to hear out ideas on where to build the monastary (and since it's one to the gods, plural, and not Armok, no magma is allowed. Besides, I don't have enough magmalings for that.)

So that's that! Plate armor, dead dorfs, fighting, fancy baubles, some kind of gnome armor, rusty iron out the ass, bank, magic crap, other stuff. Oh, and most of the fortress has been smoothed, lit with braziers, and I'm working on getting everyone hooked up with doors and such. Last to go on the smoothing department is the catacombs, being smoothed now.

I thought it was pretty rude of them honestly. Was wondering why a candelabra got knocked over twice and where one of my windows went when someone caught that asshole.

The succbi don't reside in the region, and honestly they more or less just kinda stumbled out and got captured by accident. I mean, yeah we did lose our only competent engineer, but I'd say raging psycho horses is a fair trade.

When I stormed into Splint's office a year ago, I'd known already that I would waste the rest of my life in caverns, probably getting chewed on by a giant spider in the end. What I didn't know was that I would actually like this place. It's rather cold, damp and lonely down here, for sure. But the caverns, indeed, have their own, nightmarish beauty.

Just look at those majestic caushemars! They prance across those moss fields, strong and proud, like the real rulers of this inhospitable world. One of them killed a soldier and mauled two others, but we managed to capture two of them. They seem to be rather sapient as well, and suitable for training.

Cave swallows roam free above us, ready to attack and protect their nests. Silverfish, those weird and marvellous beasts, are herding near the lake, gathering moss piles and preying on small animals. Shadow beasts are stalking in the darkness, waiting for guards to lose their alertness. The tribals! Did I say about the tribals? The frogmen live behind that hill, hardly moving anywhere, hunting and fishing for food. Be careful, they might not want to barter with you, and will try to pepper you with spikes instead.

What a fabulous world is that!

While I was patrolling the caves, a runner came in, telling me that my pet was killed during a goblin raid. These are indeed sad news, but I don't seem to care anymore...

Yeah, that happens more often than I'd like. Whenever there's long lulls in armed conflict or I dunno what to do next (my waterfall idea was ruined by a lack of foresight and forgetting how water works in DF,) I tend to fuck off to do something else. For the time being though, I do know what to do: Arcane research to get the white and black magic alters, expand magma works if possible, finish library, find someone to actually write the damned books for it, and build a monastery.

I also decided I'm going to color code the mages' armor uniforms.
Bronze and Copper: Mountainheart (Dunno on this one but these are the only brown weapon/armor metals I'm aware of.)
Bloodsteel and Bronze: Emberblaze
Cobalt and Iron: Oceanguide
Titanium and Steel: Stormtempest
Mithril and Titanium: White
Steel and Iron: Black

Recent migrant wave no, but there is a legendary engraver from the first wave, Shash Dumasob. He's even in the mason's guild!



He's married, but his wife isn't present or possibly dead, his oldest child present and eldest daughter was the now-deceased swordsdwarf Kiror, and his other on-site child is his youngest son, who is working as bookkeeper.
