Armor/weapongrade resource question: do we have steeloak or at least ironbark farm plots? And some normal tree farm plots too

We have a steeloak and regular tree patches and I'm debating on adding ironwood since I think I have a bag or two's worth of ironbark seeds. They're viable now that we have the herbalist's lab to get the metal out of them. Honestly I'd been wanting to get that damned lab so we could just get steel and iron that way. Plus we can use the steeloak and one of our exceptional carpenters to make nice furniture for Rakust and other important dorfs.

Quote
we could make gemtip ammo (gem+wood) for the marksmen and have bones left over for ironbone making.

I hadn't thought of that. Viable, but I'm unsure about it, since if I don't keep an eye on our supply of gems we may not have any on hand if a mood strikes. And I dunno if they're counted as metal or not, but I can check that.

Sorry about the lack of updates guys. A mix of yard work, Skyrim, and actually managing to leave my house more than twice in the same week have diverted my attentions.

It needs cut gems. Cut Fire Clay/R. Also the end result is gemtip, which is a metal material, able to be melted down I think.

Seems a bit exploity but it'll work.

EDIT: it can't be melted down, but it will be a good bolt material I think. Surely better than bone.

The bone ammo is meant for training more than combat but most enemies tend to neglect bringing a full suit of armor so it's still somewhat useful. But I'll set aside a spot for clay collection and get a space readied for the purpose.

Good. Bear in mind that it also needs wood logs, so the ammo isn't exactly free.

That won't be a problem. I think we have more wood than we could feasibly use at this point.

skyrim is always a valid excuse for getting distracted. My distractions of late have been Space Engineers, and Banished. (if you have never played space engineers... think MineCraft in space.)

Do we have a legends export laying about anywhere? I'm probably overthinking things, but my dwarf was a member of two... thingies (organizations?) previously. I'd like to work that into any backstory I come up with. Note: don't go spending effort on this if you don't have an export laying around. The last time I wrote stories was in High School and I'm almost 30 now. So... yea. I might not actually post anything.  :o

I was honestly considering copying the save and pulling something together. I do have an export sitting in the dank recesses of my e-basement but it's now out of date as far as finding people's dwarves go.

Heh, another space engineer, surprised we don't have a riverrun server going or something. As for DF stuff, I'm usually choking on all the metal that comes from legendary priests before long, so I am a bit surprised we are still hurting in that regard, even after the nerf they got.

It's because I don't have Hidor at the shrine constantly, plus many items (namely armor) require more than one bar of metal, and plate armor needs even more. Most of what they spit out for weapons crade metal is bronze, and even then it takes them a few tries to get that. Iron and steel are even fewer, meaning we need to stock up through imports mainly. It took months to get three dwarves outfitted in solid armor that they could really feel safe in. It's going to likely take years even with the labs to do the same for the rest of the militia because of how quickly the armory eats steel.

Okay guys, so, in light of my sudden lack of promptness with updates due to several factors (wanting to start a new story fort using either orcs or humans, Skyrim, Angel Abbey being put down permanently, Carryscar being close to a story conclusion, and new DF version,) I've decided to post two saves: Riverrun as it currently is, and Riverrun at the very beginning. You guys can begin alternate universes, and I'll set up a post to catalogue them all!

All you need to do is makes sure they're marked as "Alternate Timeline [whatever the hell]" so I can organize them accordingly and to not confuse people. This doesn't mean I'm bailing completely, because I still have things I want to do and I still want to run the fort myself for the "main event" stuff. I just wanna do other stuff and don't want this particular fort to die outright.

Now, I do have a stipulation. The nobles and admins are running the show, not your dwarves unless they happen to be one of those individuals. I tried to make it clear this Splint was not in charge of anything but the militia - literally nothing. Everything that was built and done was not on his orders. The acts of horrific violence on the other hand were all him, to give you an idea. For example, the Mayor could tell Splint to kill something but it's up to him if the order is carried out, and Splint can put in a request for better weapons but it'd be the manager/smiths' own decision to prioritize weapons and armor over crafts and furniture. So keep this in mind, if only to have some measure of cohesiveness in presentation.

The saves!

This means if any of you have a different direction in design, various projects or what have you, have at it, and keep this thread posted!

oOOOOOOH, this looks interesting. I might branch off the timeline at some point. Although I'm really bad at Dwarf mode, so fun might be the result.

Pff, won't matter to the main fort if that happens, though it'll have to be from you intentionally screwing things up at this point.
