Just finished chapter 43, I'm surprised the vampire mayor got smashed by the bridges. If the mayor hand't been dealt with by the time I caught all the way up, I was going to suggest you could have the mayor assigned to a squad and set to patrol in the magma tunnel before activating the pumps again,  or designating some spaces on the glacier for the mayor to channel out, and while the mayor slowly goes through digging, activate the pumps and have her incinerated and incased along with her foul fog co-hort in ice or obsidion.

Wow.  What really blows me away is the skill being displayed here.  Never mind the gripping narrative, simply keeping the Fort alive with this much !FUN! is a feat unto itself.

Wow, a miracle that... I *think* it's now a survivable one, but I note 2 things that disturb me:

1:  Doors - better wall those doors up before a ghost opens them up
2:  Corpse disposal - perhaps I'm mistaken, but did you just lose your corpse dumping area?

As far as the King making it safely to Roomcarnage... perhaps it would be a mercy if he didn't.

Never show mercy to the king, he would not return the favour.

Meanwhile the boys and girls at Merriam-Webster are considering to erase the word "epic" on behalf of "Roomcarnage".

Regarding the doors, which ones? I've walled up all the doors leading to the compromised sections of the fortress. All of the dwarves are entirely cut off from anywhere really dangerous.

And yes, I'll need a new corpse disposal area.

Hows the carnage coming along? Any dwarfs left to tell the tale?

It's coming along! I hope to have the new chapter complete within the next few days. I've just been very busy with other projects lately.

Holy crap, stone FB with instant death dust? I'm amazed at the ongoing survival of the fort, you sir are an excellent overseer.

On a related note, it might be cool to implement an emergency lockdown lever. So somewhere in the fort there sits a single lever that is connected to every one of dozens of bridges you place at key chokepoints in the fort. That way, when something like this happens in future, you can pull a lever and shut everything down. You could also have your mechanics link up a lever to each bridge on either side of it, so that dwarves can deactivate the bulkheads individually as areas are deemed safe.
