Chapter 26 has been posted!

Manager>copper crossbow>30*7
Manager>copper bolts>30*7
Manager>leather quiver>30*7
Military>new uniform>crossbow over clothing+250 bolts per squad>DRAFT EVERYONE

The corpse of Urist McShambling has risen and is - *thwang*
The corpse of - *thwang*
The corpse - *bash*
The - *bash*

Ad infinitum, until haulers arrive. :)
It's a major project but very worthwhile. Although, come to think of it, 200 tanned and un-reanimated hides may be hard to come by in Roomcarnage :P

The tanned hide situation is certainly a problem, and would be the main obstacle to overcome when equipping the entire civilian force with crossbows and quivers. Perhaps someday it'll be feasible, but for now, I'll be turning to other options for interior fortress defense.

Rooms are key - morale is definitely going to get further from the edge if you start a major effort to furnish them. Perhaps encrust all furniture with green glass?
If you wanted to do more engineering fun, you could possibly thaw out a reservoir of water for your hospital using magma and then keep it warm by keeping a layer of magma 1 z-level beneath it. You could possibly then use aforementioned water to build a few reactors and power the Weapon if you're not opposed to the exploit-y. Though I expect you'll have enough problems on your hands without sudden inexplicable reactor freezes/fps drop/accidental drownings/dwarves being able to survive injury to the point that mandates the construction of an actual medical system, inadvertently creating new opportunities for zombies since you have no soap and infections take lives seemingly at random.

I say you save the north for last and pave over the east first- I believe you are in the north(?), so less nastiness is likely to come from that direction...

Just in case you're not already aware, I'm like 90% sure corpses can't change state (either to rotten or reanimated) while being hauled, so the only danger is if the corpse gets dropped on the way.

Actually, I'm positive that they can and do change state during hauling. I've witnessed it at least once in Roomcarnage (during chapter one, the water buffalo, but not caught in a gif), and on other occasions as well. The wiki says it's possible too, so there's that as well.

This is Beautiful.
As they say - some men just want to watch the world burn... As for dwarves, "some" is an understatement.

I just saw a guy with two broken legs push a minecart with a corpse in it. Yeah.

And really, we don't want to see it burn, we want to see it drowned in magma.

Cast a humunguous cube of obsidian on the surface. Enable every job on every citizen. Give military gear to every citizen. Carve cube full of claustrophobic tunnels devoid of decoration. Tantrumers are malfunctioning units and will be incinerated. We are the Borf.
