The Great Cross-Examination ~ Moderato

"Now, a short explanation: up until this point, the prosecution and the witnesses have technically been the same people, so the GM would simply cut to the chase and have the witness testify. But that's not applicable here, so I'm going to introduce a real-life part of the courtroom process: the 'direct examination' is when the person who summoned the witness asks them questions to further their case. The cross-examination comes afterward and is performed by the opposite side."

"Now, if the lady would please inform the court of her name and profession?"

"Chiaki Nanami, high school student."

The judge looks upon the direct examination, and explanation thereof, with approval.

"Miss Nanami, where were you at the time of the murder?"

"I was watching the trial, in the stands."

[Tawa]

"What did you see in the courtroom at 2:14, that is, the time of the murder?"

"The judge wishes to remind the prosecution that they should not call it a murder until the events have been proven to be a murder.

E.g. say 'at 2:14 on x-ty x day.'  I believe that is standard procedure."

[Tawa]

"Uh, yeah. That."

"The judge said something about "getting it over with" and called the defendant- now victim, I guess- to the stand. The victim asked if they were free to go. The judge responded with "no", and shot the victim."
