[It’s a M.A.D. World] – A Game of Diplomacy

In this first testing ground of the atomic bomb I have seen the most terrible and frightening desolation in four years of war. […] The damage is far greater than photographs can show. – Wilfred Burchett

200 years have passed since what has been deemed “The Great Awakening” or, as the more scholarly call it, World War II. Since then a great many ideologies have spread. This resulted in several all powerful nations fighting for their ideology. This war has quickly escalated. What was originally fought with words soon became a battle of tanks, then the skies, and now each nation has begun to pull its most deadly weaponry “The Nukes”. Each nation fears their neighbor. Millions of under-ground bunkers have been constructed while the satellites target their nation’s enemies. Your role, as a leader of these warring nations, is to eliminate your opposition. This is the only way.

How the Game Works
[It’s a M.A.D. World] is a quick forum game where the goal is to be one of the last two players alive [or even the last player!]. In order to achieve this goal each player has possession of 3 card types [Nuke, Bunker, and Peace]. Each turn each player is given 1 Nuke, [Player Number]/2 Bunkers, and Unlimited peace cards.

Players are then allowed to diplomacy in thread or via PM [if you PM you must forward it to the mod] until they decide how to use their cards. At this point they PM their choices to the mod. Nuke Card, [Players Left]/2 Bunker Cards, and Unlimited Peace Cards.

After this the turn plays out and then the remaining players are re-dealt their cards and must start over until they are one of the only two nations left.

Card Types
Each card has its own effect to try to balance out the game. You can post your cards in-thread or via PM. If you send both than only the PM’d card plays count.

[1] The Nuke – This is the only offensive card. Each player will only ever be given one of these per turn. This card, is successfully deployed, will eliminate the opposing player from the game. For this card to be successful your target must NOT use a Bunker card on you. If you are the only one who targeted a player with The Nuke then the use of The Nuke is declared publicly. Otherwise only the number of players using The Nuke is declared.

[2]Bunker – This card is the only defensive measure in the game. If you play this card on another player they are protected from the Nuke of a specific player. Any other nukes targeting that player are successful. No one is made aware that you played this card, or even IF you played this card. They are only told that the nuke failed. The number of bunkers you have is equal to the half the current number of players rounded down.

[3] Peace – This card has no affect and is automatically used on any player who you do not target with The Nuke or Bunker card.

It is important to note that

[Example Game]
There are 4 players: A, B, C, and D
Each player receives 1 Nuke, 2 Bunkers, and Unlimited Peace cards for the turn.
A: I will Nuke B, Bunker C [against B] and Bunker D [Against C]
B: I will Nuke A, Bunker C [Against A] and Bunker C [Against D]
C: I will Nuke A, Bunker B [Against A] and Bunker B [Against D]
D: I will Nuke C, Bunker A [Against C] and Bunker B [Against C]
[Turn is Processed]
A’s Nuke has failed!
B’s Nuke has succeeded!
C’s Nuke has failed!
D’s Nuke has failed!
A has been eliminated!

Turn 2 begins
There are 3 players: B, C, and D
Each player receives 1 Nuke, 1 Bunkers, and Unlimited Peace cards for the turn.
B: I will Nuke D and Bunker C [Against D] [Sent Via Forum]
B: I will Nuke C and Bunker No One [Sent Via PM]
C: I will Nuke D and Bunker B [Against D]
D: I will Nuke B and Bunker C [Against B]
[Turn is Processed]
B’s Nuke has succeeded!
C’s Nuke has succeeded!
D’s Nuke has succeeded!
C has been eliminated!
D has been eliminated!
B is the sole remaining country in a M.A.D. world!
B wins!

But didn't D nuke B,and C  bunker B?

Shouldn't C have won, not B?

Actually, I think the round should be inconclusive.

Quote
Turn 2 begins
B: I will Nuke C and Bunker No One [Sent Via PM]
C: I will Nuke D and Bunker B [Against D]
D: I will Nuke B and Bunker C [Against B]
B fails to nuke C
C successfully nukes D
D fails to nuke B.

Which leaves just two players, resulting in Mutually Assured Destruction.

In fact, that will be a rather common outcome.

Also, if there are only 3 players left, there isn't much you can do. The only logical thing to do is to attack one of your two enemies, and not bunker anyone.  Because if you do successfully bunker another person, you have thrown yourself in a stalemate.

But....B didn't bunker anyone. Why would he fail?

Also, last time Iplayed, if you were one of the two remaining players, you won, since you both had a bunker and a nuke, and neither could beat the other.

B would fail to Nuke C, because D bunkered C against B.

I don't think you can't bunker yourself. So being one of the last two means MAD.

In. Here's a tip: Don't ally with me, I'll either backstab you or arrange for another "ally" to nuke you while goading you to nuke him.

What?

Bunkering means you can't be hurt by the person you bunkered against.Right? Why else would you ever bunker at all?

No.  You can't bunker yourself.  You use your bunkers as a tool for negotiation.

Bunkering means that you're protecting a Second person against the attacks from a third person.
