Now that I have the final badge, I should start heading towards the Quasar Plateau to challenge the Elite Four. Even before I think about doing that, I need to make a few changes. I switch Garchomp and Seaking for Helioptile and Excadrill. Then it's a quick trip to Fianga City to see the Move Deleter so I can replace Relicanth's Surf with Dive.
Then it's over to Onega Town. In one corner of the town, there's a spot blocked off by Cuttable trees.
<somehow lost the image of the area>
There was a Beedril here.
Next is the Onega Safari Zone.
Because of this.
The grass here doesn't have any wild Pokémon. There's a good reason for that.
Hey wait, legendaries don't have gender.
Took quite a few Safari Balls to catch. Had to savescum only once though. And yes, it was the same annoyance as catching Gible: it runs, it's gone forever.
Next is Blackfist City, for the same thing.
After two attempts at throwing rocks, after which he fled on the first turn, I simply threw a Safari Ball at him. It caught.
That's two of the Kami Trio(as the Mythologist called them), but I don't know where the third Safari Zone is, so I'll leave that one alone for now.
Before I exit the Safari Zone, I catch some non-legendaries.
Truly, a most dwarven of Pokémon. That reminds me, with DF2014 out, I really should start rebuilding that Pokémon mod again.
I bet that magnet would stop working if Onix hit a vein of magnetite.
Next stop is Midnight Mansion. According to the Mythologist in the Secret Base, there's a legendary here.
With Zeus defeated, the guard is gone, granting me entrance. It is, however, excessively dark. I quickly swap out Helioptile's Thunderbolt with Flash, use it, then replace Flash with Thunderbolt again. It's fun having TMs for both moves like that.
It's a bit of an improvement.
The place is, surprise surprise, haunted.
And that's why
God Arceus gave mankind jackhammers and alcohol.
Oh great, maybe I shouldn't keep this one too close.
I think I've seen that happen with the streetlights in this game.
On the 4th Floor. The hallways are getting narrower. The floors above the 1st don't seem to have wild encounters. Navigating the place is much easier when you use a flashlight. Loot is somewhat scant, some Ultra Balls and Max Ethers so far. I also found a Reaper Cloth, which I'm taking a hazy guess that it's used to evolve Misdreavus.
Up on the 6th floor, I come across the goal.
The Mythologist's hints led me to think that it was Darkrai here. It's not.
That's it for Midnight Mansion.
Next stop is Shadow Path between Onega and Fianga. There was a spot that required Rock Smash to get through. I figured there would be something useless like a Mega-evolution item, or something that required Rock Climb. I was (somewhat) wrong.
While it does pretty much reverse a normal Chimecho's weaknesses, it's not all that useful.
That's all I can think of for legendaries for now. The only ones the Mythologist will tell me about are the Regi trio who are on or under Victory Road(unknown if Regigas is there, he only mentioned the trio), and one on or around Mt. Press, presumed to be Groudon, which apparently requires Rock Climb, as Team Olympus is still blocking the other way.
So now, it's back to Route 316.
Just like when they were introduced in Gen III, those seaweed patches are like grass.
Meh, I have both of its evolutions already.
Route 316 exits to the Mysterious Cave. It's not very mysterious, it's just a single, albeit twisting, passageway that goes above and below the water. The only wild encounters here appear to by Clamperl, Huntail, and Gorebyss, with Mantine on the surface sections.
Eventually I come outside to the rain. The Pokégear map cannot pinpoint my location, so I assume I'm still in a part of the Mysterious Cave. The fact that I immediately have to Dive again through some seaweed helps support this. I was wrong about the seaweed having just Clamperl, though.
I seem to have come up near a town, but the map still cannot tell me where. I assume it's Huron Town, since the locals are talking about the Elite Four and Huron Town is the launch point for the Victory Road. The map for Fly agrees as there's now a marker for Huron Town.
This guy spills some dirt on the E4.
Tobias uses Dark-types. His best is Hydreigon who knows a OHK move called Dark Epitaph. I have a TM for that, but it's a one-use TM. His team includes Absol, Zoroark, and "for some reason" Misdreavus. Probably a connection to his brother who uses Ghost-types, probably also to counter Fighting-types.
Corlett uses Electric-types. This guy also says you can't sweep with Ground-types(doesn't mean I won't try). His favorite is Ampharos who knows the OHK Nerval Cut. Just saying that sounds painful. He also has Eelektross and Zebstrika. I think Eelektross is the reason why a Ground sweep won't work, though Victreebel mopped Zeus' Eeletkross quite well if I recall.
Morgan uses Water-types, and enjoys spamming Rain Dance. She has a Milotic that has a OHK called Abyssal Crush. Every Elite Four appears to have a OHK move it seems. He doesn't know about the rest of her team, although I've seen her use Swanna and Floatzel in Ladoga.
He doesn't know much about Wilson, except that he uses Dragon-types. He also said Wilson's favorite is unique, and has a OHK called Dragon Flux. Wilson mentioned that he had only one successful experiment which allowed him to become a Dragon master. I'd better get Garchomp and some Ice-types up to force.
The other guy hands me a Fresh Water, except I have a couple dozen of those already. They're like Super Potions, only a fraction of the cost.
In another house, I find the famous Youngster Joey(yes, that Joey), whose mom forbid him to challenge the Elite Four with just his Rattata. Joey gives me his ID for the Simulation Depot.
Over at the PokéCenter, I find why a Ground sweep doesn't work on Corlett.
"because of a stinking Air Balloon I didn't see coming!"Air Balloons are hold items that give the holder immunity to Ground, but are destroyed if the holder takes a hit. I'm glad I heard this, or I'd have probably fallen for it.
"I heard it was made from the DNA of Zekrom and Darkrai... What a terrible beast! It could probably ravage the earth if set loose!"I hope that's not foreshadowing... Does anyone see an Absol hanging around?
Since I doubt I'm ready for the Victory Road, I head west instead north, to Yangtze Town.
Route 325 appears to be another volcano. It also appears to be mislabled Route 325, as there's another Route 325(and next to 324) on the Vesryn Spear.
Okay, that wasn't bad. There weren't any wild Pokémon. Even though I was just at one, I check out this town's PokéCenter.
"Why on earth is a Bug-type leader so powerful, when a Fighting-type leader is so weak! Then I realized each leader has all sorts of teams! When my friend went to challenge Devon for his seventh badge, he had Level 50 Pokémon! I guess all Gym Leaders are equal, it just depends on how strong you are when you face them."I would think not. Miranda sure as hell didn't have a team based at my level. And I'm pretty sure the game forced me to take the gyms in order, so I can't really test if the gym order is what set the levels.
"I remember when I first came here, there used to be a sprawling tower in the middle of the ocean. People would try to enter, but would be forced away, their teams completely annihilated. Then, without warning, a huge wave came over the tower and the tower vanished, leaving Yangtze untouched. Not a trace of the tower can be seen today!"Interesting. I wonder what could be there. However I cannot Surf away from Yangtze as it's blocked by a line of rocks. I'm sure that has
something nothing to do with this tower.
The houses here don't have much. One guy offered to trade me a Meowth, while in another I traded my Good Rod for a Super Rod.
The most important part of this town is the Safari Zone.
Obviously, finding the legendary here is going to be harder than I thought.
Or, it could be so ridiculously simple due to the cave right in the middle of the underwater part that leads right to Tornadus.
You know, this is the only pure Flying-type I think I've ever seen.
Tornadus wasn't the only catch of the day.
Earlier today I found a Crawdite. If I knew just how to get a Mega-Evolution going...
Some duct tape would solve that problem.
So... it knows Recover? (It doesn't, it probably learns it at some point, though)
With that Safari run over, I figure now is a good time to end this update. I don't think I got much done, except for the four legendaries I captured plus the large amound of Pokédex filler.
