Today is where we challenge the Superiority Complex City Gym Leader, Devon.
...Or so I thought. Looks like we better find this LEGEND PROFESSOR.
I don't get an oppurtinity to say no, do I?
"Can you go to the Wonder Cave in the Northeast of town and find the LEGEND RESEARCHER? He went in there with Devon a couple hours ago... ...could you tell him that the shipment has arrived? He'll know what I'm talking about."Well that was rather quick. And what kind of shipment is this? Drugs? It's probably drugs.
But I'm going to check out the town first.
"Do you know what an IV is?"Let's assume "no." (Real answer: no)
"An IV is a statistic that every Pokémon has. It remains the same since the day they are born. ...unles I change it!"Genetic modification?
"The higher a Pokémon's IV is, the better they will do in battle. There are many different IVs. Attack IVs, Speed IVs, they can all help you a lot! I can change a Pokémon's IV for you, if you'd like."I'm probably wrong, but IV's determine Shininess, gender, and base stats. The details are probably something only some min-maxer understands.
"Well? Would you like me to change one of your Pokémon's IVs?"We can't at the moment, since it requires IV Stones, which conviently can be found places like Wonder Cave.
How cute.
Pokémon parenting at it's best?
"Can you remind her for me?Well, where did we find something like that?
Oh right.
It'd be cruel not to. But then again, stuff like this often does have some form of reward, so I'll tell her.
She thanks me via mindrape telapathy.
"I owe you a favor. Thank you for reassuring me my child is safe. Let me know if I can do anything for you. Even if someone is charging unfair prices for an HM, I'd help you out."That's... oddly specific.
Back to town, since I've actually forgotten to heal my team since the last update.
"I'll trade you my Munchlax!"According to the Pokédex, you can't get Weedle in this version, so no trade.
The house next the shop, appears to be some kind of cockfight ring. Which is funny because that's normal in the Pokémon universe.
"bucks! ...oh, you don't have a million bucks. Too bad!"I don't even think this country uses that currency. I suppose this that very specific favor that Hypno owes me.
You're going to die a virgin.
...Just like me... Back to the forest to cash in that favor.
What a convient favor.
The screen blacked out, and when it came back, I get the notification for receiving HM04 Strength.
That sounded a bit cold, but yeah, we're even. Unfortunately, nobody on the current team can use it. Also, returning to the Battle Club, the guy selling it is no longer there. Makes me wonder what the mindraping Hypno did to the guy.
There isn't much else left in town. The big rock spire in the middle is apparently where Ho-oh is found. And a guy suffering from some kind of food poisoning gave me TM06 Acid for an antidote. So now it's on to Wonder Cave.
Unfortunately, except the first floor, it's really goddamned dark.
And a few steps in, an opponent steps out of the darkness.
A superior opponent! Swarm tactics, go!
Maybe not so superior, since his first move was Helping Hand, which is one of the most useless things you can use when you're the only one on your team.
Luckily, a few turns in, after switching out Caterpie, Silcoon poisons him. Oddly, Poison Sting isn't super effective on Tyrogue.
A single Vine Whip is enough to finish off Tyrogue. Caterpie and Silcoon level up.
Shortly after this guy, we encounter...
That takes care of learning Strength.
After catching it, I swap Pidgey out for it and teach it Strength.
Geodude became instrumental in capturing Makuhita.
And of course, there are other trainers.
I've always hated Whismur for some reason. The fact that it nearly takes Geodude out in one hit doesn't help.
Goddamn, that thing took down Bellsprout and Silcoon. Geoduded leveled twice, and Starly learned Wing Attack, so the EXP didn't go to waste.
After picking up the many pieces of the team and coming back, I'm greeted by something I've never seen before.
A double wild encounter. Huh.
Gonna catch 'em both. Turns out you can't aim a Pokéball when there's two of them. That Riolu looks pretty awesome, so I'll catch it. Plus, that Whismur is using Uproar, which is overpowered, so I'm going to take it down.
To his credit, I used all my Pokéballs trying to catch it at very low HP and Paralyzed. Gonna replace Paras with it. I still have a Great Ball and Dusk Ball, but funds are getting low...
Back to the cave! Where I meet...
Aw hell. Cool Trainers tend to be stronger than average.
This one sent out Geodude, whose Sturdy kept it from being one-shotted by Vine Whip. Then he sent out... that.
It looks like an anus.
It Hardened for four turns straight before attacking.
Oh, piss off you emo Elmo.
But then.
Shortly after that, Geodude leveled up again, and I dropped Mud Sport in favor of a new move, Rock Polish. We'll get to use it shortly.
She too has a Riolu. It takes down Geodude with Counter. I opt to have Silcoon poison it slowly. Poison Sting's low damage mitigates the damage from Counter. A last minute change to Metapod results in some serious damage to Metapod when the tenacious bastard got a critical Quick Attack in.
On the way out to heal yet again, I catch my very own rock-anus.
Finally reaching a place that's lit. That item ball on the left had TM70 Flash. I suppose it's not an HM anymore.
Then I catch a Cubone.
Then Machop.
After that, nothing of note happens except some ninjas, and using all my Pokéballs on a failed attempt to capture Whismur. And a Pokémon Ranger who had a crush on the other Ranger I beat before. At least until...
Then there was another Ranger girl who had a crush on the guy before(who had a crush on the first Ranger), and wasn't sure if the first Ranger girl actually liked guys at all.
Finally at the end of the cave, we find Devon and the WONDER PROFESSOR/RESEARCHER/ALL CAPS GUY.
Spoiler alert, Devon knows Rock Smash.
"I may need you to bust it open after all..."!!!!
"Huh? It's warm!" *turns around to me*
"Did you do this?"You noticed I was standing behind you?
"Well, whatever you're doing, it's working. Quick! Put your hand on the stone!""Oh! Something appeared!"I can honestly say I didn't see that coming.
Ugh, it tore right through Bellsprout and Beautifly. I thought Unown's Hidden Power only caused Grass-type attacks due to the way it works? It was super-effective against Bellsprout, and neutral to Metapod and Beautifly.
"You must have a bright future.
Hey, why are you here, anyways? Oh, my package arrived! Excellent! I have to go. Akura, I think you should go to Fianga City. It's to the South-West of here. My friend, Wilson, has a laboratory there. I'd recommend you see him, I'm sure he'll very interested in you."The cowardly guy my mother was talking about? Holy crap, I remembered that!
"You should check out my Gym."And I think it's time to end this update.
