... Yes, the hugs are for everyone.  No stabbing, though.  Just hugs.

I'm playing through Zeta at the moment. Enjoying the lp! Just wondering, does this game have any trade evolutions that require another human? That was a part of the older games which always annoyed me.

Actually, with Hidden Power, the type and actual strength of the attack depends on the Pokémon. So Hidden Power can be any of the types with varying degrees of "umph" behind it.

Since it hurt a grass/poison type, but didn't hurt Bug as much, it sounds like this Unknown may be using Psychic as it's Hidden Power.

Yep. Bellsprout is weak to fire/flying/ice/psychic, and the only one of those that Beautifly isn't also weak to is psychic.

Also, Riolu is the cool stuff I was talking about earlier.

Semispoiler : Do NOT do the Developer Challenge when you get to it. The first enemy has 6 pokemon at level ~65. There is no indication from the game that this is going to be that difficult when you come to it!

Just lost to Thor as well! :(

If you want someone to battle against Akura I'd be happy to participate. I'm in roughly the same spot. Just beat the first gym.

Blah. Now you are getting me to want to try this game again. I tried to work my way through it earlier, but I couldn't get through.

Perhaps I will download it and give it a shot.

When the battle system starts working, maybe.

I blitzed through part of the campaign though, so I may be a bit out of the first Gym now... Further than that even. :(

I remember reading somewhere, which I can't seem to find at the moment, that, due to Unown's particular IV or something, it was only able to use Hidden Power as a Grass-type move at a power of 40. I've only ever used Unown in second generation games, and if I recall, that's what happened.

Of course, that's probably why I guessed Unown's power in Omicron wrong. It uses a different method to determine Hidden Power. As far as I can guess, when I caught it in that update, it was a Psychic-type Hidden Power, which was super effective+STAB.

Just wondering, does this game have any trade evolutions that require another human? That was a part of the older games which always annoyed me.
I remember hearing something that you can eventually unlock something that let's you trade with yourself, but that was before v1.4 was released.

IVs used to determine shininess/gender/unown shape, etc, but only in gen 2 - they changed that in gen 3 onwards, and I believe they're now based on interactions between two hidden ID numbers unaffiliated with the IVs.

Hidden Power's formula has changed over the gens, and I'd be surprised if the O/Z makers adopted the current one: It is now a guaranteed base 60 special attack, rather than the spread of powers it used to have. (Its element is still based on IV - the glitch you mentioned might be due to the IV being used for both Unown's form and Hidden Power's typing in gen 2, which would restrict certain forms of Unown to specific elements.) As Unown is psychic, it gets the STAB bonus when Hidden Power is psychic, so no wonder that Unown was tearing through you despite Unown generally being terrible.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure all Pokemon are available in-game. If you can't get Weedle, that's a sign that its evolved form is the one found in the wild, or you can get one via a trade in-game. (In this case, I, playing Zeta, encountered Weedles and not Caterpies, but eventually encountered a rare Butterfree.)
