Polaris Town is the next stop, assuming we don't die from the cold as it approaches absolute zero.
First, though, I still have some Pokémon in the purification chamber. I'll take a walk around Canis until they're done.
"Man, I felt like breaking out in dance right away!"Yeah, the Master of Swank has that effect on people.
...No wait, I'm the Master of Swank now.
"have golden bracelets. I wonder what it could mean! Is it a conspiracy?"Oh yes, a conspiracy against the peasants they
already have absolute rule over.
Looking back at some previous screenshots, Suzerain might have a pair of golden bracelets, or it might be some kind of gold-colored undershirt. It's a little hard to tell.
"Before he disappeared, of course. They say he was working on a spaceship called Pheonix Iota. I wonder if the project was still in progress?"I wonder if that's a route to getting Deoxys.
The guy next to him gives me TM04 Calm Mind. I would teach Meowstic that, but I don't want to get rid of any of her attack moves. I looked up Meowstic, and found that the male gets mostly support moves while the female gets assault moves. I guess it's true that women are the destroyers of the world
pleasedon'tkillme.
"I don't have any money!"If you don't want random people barging in, lock the door! Or have some money next time!
"Here, I stole two! You can have one!"He gives me a
Master Ball. This guy is fucking
awesome.
So that's how it works. I suppose I should start breeding them. Someone in town wants to trade Aron for one.
"Are you insane? Well, you should have this!"He gives me a Focus Band. Wait, he gave me this because he thought I was mentally ill? Isn't that discrimination?
"Many moves are usually only available to people doing a Nuzlocke Challenge from the Nuzlocke Lord. However, I could probably sell you these TMs even if you aren't Nuzlocking."Probably? Anyway, some of these moves are interesting. There's two that change the opponent's type, Medusa Ray(Rock) and Flash Freeze(Ice). Livewire is available, and the last time I saw that was from battling Red. I guess that it makes sense that Red was Nuzlocking, since he died.
An interesting one is Wildfire, which a burn status move, but if the target is Grass-type, all Pokémon on the opposing team that are weak to Fire get a burn. That could be useful if the Polaris Gym Leader has Abomasnow.
"I would kill to know how she did it!"That's worth a look.
"An item for a Pokémon. One thing I really want is the Rare Box for Seed Flare. I'm willing to give you a Litwick with two Moves it couldn't normally learn otherwise. Fair?"The Litwick is Lv.5 and has Shadow Sneak and Moonblast, neither of which are exceptional. Moonblast might be good for anti-Dark, but that's it. It also has Shadow Ball and Fire Blast. It's not a particularly great trade. But on the other hand, I'm never going to use this Rare Box. Might as well get something out of it. Litwick is kind of adorable, too.
Plus, can't Shadow Sneak and Moonblast be bred onto a Litwick? Or is that too impossible?
Anyway, by now Growlithe is purified, gaining Flame Wheel, Reversal, Fire Fang, and Take Down. Voltorb and Absol are next, getting Charge Beam/Light Screen/Electro Ball/Selfdestruct and Swords Dance/Future Sight/Night Slash/Detect respectively. Excadrill is not done yet.
I put Sigilyph, Politoed, and Golem in to be purified. While they cook, I head further into Mt. Epsilon.
And for once, I'm getting new captures right away.
That is one fatass uglybitch cat.
I've been seeing this one for some time, they just kept Exploding in my face.
Shortly past the entrance, I pick up TM58 Sky Drop. Should I bring Unfezant back in, he'll get this to replace Fly.
"chilly up here!"Which reminds me, am *I* prepared for mountain climbing? Let's see, ropes, grappling hooks, pitons... yeah, I have none of that. And I'm still going to climb it.
You're not...
freezing to death up here, are you? That would be bad.
Anyway, she tore up my team pretty badly, so I head back to heal, and to purify Excadrill. He got Slash, Rock Slide, Horn Drill, and Earthquake. Rapidash takes his spot.
I can see that the developer got bored here. In short order I picked up TM90 Substitute and TM91 Flash Cannon.
"Oh, I know! I better consult the Helix Fossil!"I didn't know you can consult with a dead
bone er, shell.
Either he hit his head, or that's some meme thing I don't get.
The proper way of saying is that at 0 Kelvin, there's no particle movement.
His name is Giraffe, and he had a Miltank that hit Banette with Wake-Up Slap. I thought that Wake-Up Slap couldn't hit Ghost-types? (In a later battle it didn't hit, so Miltank has an ability that lets it hit?)
Anyway, after Miltank, there was Medicham.
I wasn't able to paralyze Medicham, on account of Banette getting knocked out in one hit. He was still an easy capture, though.
His Pidgeot and Druddigon fall to Vaporeon's Ice Beam. How's that for absolute zero?
I don't know. It would have made more sense to call you Girafarig.
There isn't much anything left in this sector, so I press on to the next. But before I do, I'm stopped.
Who did you expect? Santa Claus(who
does exist in the PokéUniverse)?
"Weapon". You talk as if a legendary weather god doesn't have feelings.
Nope, actually. It's to defend his Royal Guards. Because, you know, the King isn't there to defend.
Even if I am doing Maxie's dirty work, someone has to.
"Even though the King has been missing for a month or more, Cipher fully expects him to be waiting in Kingdom Castle, in his office."...Really? When Greevil was ranting about his plans, he seemed to think the exact opposite of that.
"To use the Black Orb to fully take control of him? To rule the region from behind the throne?"The Black Orb can do that? So Shadow disease DOES affect humans!
That's pretty much the entire reason I'm here. To make sure that they DON'T.
If you're so worried, why don't you go jump in your rocketship and fly your ass to the moon?
No, not
Shadow Rayquaza. I will purify it.
Shall I list the gods I've controlled? Cresselia, Tornadus, Landorus, Thunderus, Heatran, Volcanion(not sure if legendary), Mewtwo(and I know where Mew is), Genesect, VICTINI. How about the gods I've destroyed?!
Listen, you smarmy bastard, I'm going to kick your ass.
And I'm gonna steal that gold bracelet, too.
That's a bit of a level jump, but Banette isn't the only one who can thrash Espeon.
The first attack leaves Banette hurt, but still standing. I send in Mawile to keep fighting.
Crap, did he do that last time?(I forgot if he did)
Meowstic can hardly put a dent in Swampert, and the Light Screen Espeon put up didn't help.
Vaporeon comes out, but gets frozen by Ice Punch. No matter, Scald takes care of that. Swampert gets frozen next, and I use the time to try and heal up.
Okay, so this battle isn't quite going as planned.
Another problem. Somehow, Jolteon has Icy Wind. It's fairly worthless, though he also has a Life Orb. I just tank and heal my way through. When Jolteon's HP run out, the game bugs out slightly. Instead of fainting, it goes right to the shift option.
Ordinarily, I would wreck that thing, but I need to heal Banette instead(and hope she's faster). Of course, that's stupid, since Flygon is immune to Thunder Wave. Vaporeon gets taken out in one hit, and Banette almost.
That was lucky. *checks if that wasn't a Master Ball* Nope!
I'm just using Mawile to revive my Vaporeon. Lucky for her, Vaporeon used Wish. My Vaporeon got healed by Scald switching in. If the negaverse version of the previous battle was any indication, this is going to take a while.
After a while, Suzerain got bored and sent in Aegislash. Vaporeon gets criticaled by Sacred Sword(how does it know this?!), and Blaziken takes over while I revive him again.
I leave Blaziken in to fight Vaporeon, trying to use Wildfire to burn him. It fails. Since Vaporeon can't do much more than Toxic to mine, I start reviving everyone I can.
Banette manages to land a Thunder Wave, so now everyone I revived can at least get a hit in. Meowstic manages to bring the tank down.
"Very well. Continue up Mt. Epsilon, encounter Brendan at its peak."I could very well just leave the region to rot, you know.
I really want to throw him off a cliff.
Oh look! A cliff!
But before I start climbing to altitudes that I need oxygen tanks or magical powers, of which I have neither, Sigilyph, Politoed, and Golem are ready. Rapidash isn't too far behind. I also put Flygon, Toxicroak, and Pidgeot in. Those three are the last Shadow Pokémon I have left. Awesome.
No, but you will hear objections from your Flying-types as they're frozen or hit with rocks.
After this irritant, more new catches.
I guess the furries can be happy with this one.
This one was pretty intelligent, he used Odor Sleuth before ExtremeSpeed.
During a double encounter with Shelgon and Arcanine...
I've got two Megas.
Of course I caught the Shelgon.
Nowadays, they use metal that doesn't suck.
Shall I push you off the cliff so you can get a real close-up of the scenery?
Thanks! Blaziken, push her off the cliff.
"I don't even know his name, but I heard he's amazingly tough!"I met him, and I don't even know his name.
You have no idea.
"they would corrupt if they did?"That would be a problem, certainly.
"I stuffed them into rocks and threw them at my friends!"And then you lost your trainer's license and were imprisoned for aggravated battery and Pokémon cruelty.
He had two Camerupts and two Magcargoes. The latter is literally made of lava. How'd he do that?
Oh.
Ugh, more cave. When do I get to Polaris Town. Or at least, the badass deathmatch with Brendan?
Is this the same mother who's been abandoning her kids in Quake Desert?
That is a sensible statement, given his mother.
Besides horrible parenting, there's other things in this cave.
"Leader up here twice."Really? Despite that, she's quickly defeated.
Do you?
Thou shalt not text whilst battling.
The next guy wondered what the Polaris Gym Leader's name is and speculated that speaking it can shatter the Earth. He wouldn't be worth mentioning if not for the Shadow Pokémon.
First thing is to switch to Banette to zap it(she gets beaten down in the process), and then Carbink to tank while the balls fly.
The corruption shall be cleansed.
Literally, he was. He died, came back to life, and battled me in Vesryn.
Eventually, I come outside.
Bleh, snow. At least it's not snow
ing. I didn't see anything new by the entrance to the area.
"that is especially good against Water-types!"Yes, Aurorus being here was the reason I took Tyrunt instead of Amaura.
After beating him, he says I'm almost at Polaris. However, his Water-type team tore several of my team up, so I must fly back to heal. Everyone but the Gigalith I just caught and Medicham(wow, forgot this one) is purified.
"close to the summit!"FFFFFFFFFUUUU-
That's probably from the lack of oxygen.
How so? I've fought tooth, nail, and flamecannon to get where I am today!
Most bugs die at these temperatures.
Of course, they were Bug/Steel-types. And one of them probably didn't notice the cold, because...
Luckily, Scizor is slow, and Banette manages to paralyze her without (un?)dying. Vaporeon was not so lucky. Mawile was, keeping Scizor flinched twice in a row.
Scolipede was last, and had the cold alleviated with a Blaze Kick to the head.
It takes a few generations. Luckily, bugs are generally short-lived and breed fast, Pokémon's insane breeding rules notwithstanding(or maybe not notwithstanding?).
Just over the ridge, and I make it to Polaris. Hey, it doesn't look like everything is at absolute zero.
At least, the locals are alive and everything.
"I heard it goes all the way up to Pheonix Iota- a space colony purely designed for battling! I wish they would let me up..."The King built a space colony to use as a
battle arena?! That's some good use of tax Poke there.
"powerful legendary or trainer at the top. Just an observations."Let's see, Mount Nova had Heatran and Mt. Press had Victini inside and I have not yet been to the summit. Epsilon here has Brendan and Rayquaza.
"was discovered!"So the Gym Leader is several hundred years old? And I assume he made the telephone work by sticking wires into Pikachu's face.
"He uses an Abomasnow, who takes quadruple damage from Fire-types!"Wow, I guessed right about that. I haven't gotten Wildfire to hit yet, I hope not because it requires a Nuzlocke run.
"Shadow Pokémon can often be difficult to purify- why don't you take this to help you?"She hands me the Time Flute. It's useless. It's one-use, and still requires a trip to Origin City(or the PC).
"The air is barely breathable at this height! You can die if you go any higher!"Yes! I need to go up, up, up the mountain ahead to reach Level 5 to complete the Triforce and save the Princess!
Oh wait, I'm hallucinating now, aren't I?
Anyways, before heading to the Gym, I want to check out the launch gantry for the rocketship. Just before it, I find an item ball.
"Take this as an apology!"
I get a Dratini, plus all that other stuff.
Among the stuff I already had, I get a Stargate(replacer for Wormhole), an EXP Share 2(toggles EXP Share effect for whole party), a Crest of Aroma(unknown, description is "Grants owner the same travel rights as the King"), VIP License(needed to get Mew from Agassiz's Psychic Temple, making the Mystery Gift for it worthless), a Black Ticket, a Music Ticket, and Lugia's Silver Wing(I have the Rainbow Wing already). No idea what may have been added to my TM/HM pocket.
That really just sucked the fun out of this whole thing. And Dratini is useless here, it's an Ice Gym!
It also
really spoiled the next bit, so I revert the save. Not that I already knew that it was going to be that, but I'm still really pissed about it.
"Only good trainers are allowed to go to the Pheonix Iota space colony!"The Crest of Aroma is needed for this. And of course, it's given by someone.
However, it would be a spoiler to reveal who. I will pretend it didn't happen.
As I walk away from the bitter taste in my mouth, Gigalith and Medicham get purified, leaving only Scizor.
Now it's time to attack the Gym.
Aw piss, not this again.
Obviously, I have to skate across. Falling into a pit leads me to the Gym Trainers. I save some trouble and climb down to wreck them right away. However, the first trainer has me struggling pretty hard, so I retreat to Mt. Epsilon to grind awhile.
Luckily, the only one on my team without any particular advantage over Ice is Banette, and she's still fairly useful. I fix that by teaching Thunder to her to deal with the mix Water/Ice-types that will show up. The 70% hit rate can be negated by Vaporeon's Rain Dance(which lasts 10 turns because of his Damp Stone).
Okay, so Meowstic doesn't have an advantage, but I've sent her against similar odds and she's pulled off some crazy damage.
Deep into the grindfest, I pick up a rarity.
I've got a yuki-onna. Great.
After about an hour or so of heavy grinding, I return to the Gym. Despite being the weakest of the bunch, Meowstic manages to clear the second trainer by herself, and dodged about 5 Sheer Colds(with a 31% hit chance). She managed half of the next one until Mawile had to take over.
The trainers dealt with, I can skate in the Gym with impunity, eventually making it to the Leader.
Great ice rink you've got here!
"I remember you."Told you I'd be here. Wait, did I tell him that?
"Very few people know my name and even fewer still have made the hike up the mountain to challenge me. They say that my very name can make you sputter with fear."After this battle, I doubt that'd be the case.
"dare to bring to my frozen throne!"I hope that Abomasnow isn't his Shadow Pokémon. Fine if it's his Mega, though.
"Tim"?! Seriously?
*rumble*
Oh crap, did I just sink a continent?
Since I have no doubt Mamoswine has Earthquake(why wouldn't it?), I send in Mawile.
You see, Mawile currently happens to have an Air Balloon since Mamoswines have shown they can wreck my team with Earthquake before. Let's face it, while most of my team is geared to take down Ice-types, most of them suck vs Ground-types.
While Mamoswine uselessly breaks apart the Earth, I use some Swords Dances and Iron Defense before smashing him. He survives the first hit with a Focus Sash. Before the finisher can land, Tim switches out.
So much for Wildfire(protip: It doesn't work anyway).
The hail from Abomasnow doesn't break Mawile's Balloon, and Weavile wastes her turn with Swords Dance.
Mamoswine returns and is immediately destroyed, but not before placing Stealth Rocks.
Cryogonal is hard because of its low catch rate, which hurts when you've got a time limit(Hyper Mode's damage) to catch it.
Okay, I'll take that.
(Note: I took MANY goddamn tries to snag Cryogonal. Each time it Hyper Moded to death after blowing up almost all my team. Fuck this creepy snowflake. The battles went more-or-less as described)
While I know Banette was supposed to handle this one, she's hurt and deserves a rest.
Unfortunately, Walrein Toxics Meowstic, then Roars to bring in Banette... who is immediately impaled on Stealth Rocks.
Time to bring some hurt.
I-i-i-i-ice breaker!
Haha, no, even if Cloyster by some miracle of Arceus faster than Blaziken(or it can tank, which it might), I've still got several team members still ready to finish him off.
Cloyster had one turn, it could have at least taken Blaziken with Hydro Pump due to the AI always frickin' hitting, but it uses Rock Blast(which makes all 5 frickin' hits). Hurts, but not enough.
Kudos for sneaking an Ice Shard through on the second turn, though.
I will murder you and stuff you full of cotton.
"than ever before... I haven't lost a battle in years..."I don't need to murder him, he's having a heart attack.
I've got the Niflheim Badge. Yay, that's every badge in the game!
I also get TM14 Blizzard. Nifty.
"unfortunately. Ice-type moves aren't exactly the most abundant ones."No, but they're starting to get there. A lot of types that had few moves early on are starting to get more.
"up here."That's a very good question. Why the bloody hell am I up here? There's no Pokémon League in this region as far as I know. The only reason I needed the badge was probably to get rid of the idiot blocking the way to the top.
"to challenge once you have all of them."I just said that. And with the Vesryn Sigils, it does make 8.
Anyway, I'm just here right now to climb to the top and kick Brendan's ass.
"there!"Why is everyone calling me insane?! You, the guy blocking the summit, the faces poking through the walls, everyone!
I will beat them, even if I have to do it in my mind full of pink bunnies!
"mountain. Be careful, though. And as soon as you're done, come back to Polaris Town as soon as possible. It's dangerous up there. I'll be waiting outside if you really want to do it."Aw, that means I'm not going to base-jump off the summit. But anyway, attacking the summit is something for another time. But at least now, I have all the badges the game has to offer.
