We've got our first Pokémon, our rival is an asshole, and now we have a clear goal in mind: Superior City, the city that thinks it's better than everyone else. So, me and Bellsprout are set to take our first steps out from Zarivar Town.
It's also nighttime again because it somehow took a whole day between the lab and the school and the lab again.
And not three steps from leaving the town, this guy attacks us:
Except I didn't look you in the eye, at least not until you ran up to me.
It's on.
...Don't I have a type disadvantage against that?
That's what Pound is for, I guess. And Bellsprout leveled up!
Oh...
I feel dirty for doing this, but...
Potions. Blegh, I hate using items in battles, but this was necessary. That Pidgey kept using Sand-Attack.
Barely. But Bellsprout leveled up again.
It's more meaningful hearing that from someone who can actually fight.
Of course, it's time to turn right back around for the Pokémon Center. And then time to fill out the roster a bit.
That's as good a cannon fodder as there is I suppose.
There's one.
Here's another.
This is one I've never seen before. I've only played the first three generations.
And finally, Pidgey.
Our team filled mostly with the rejects of the starting path. It's time to continue onwards.
We're in the right direction! (There was only one direction.)
Then this idiot attacks us.
Who is promptly demolished by the rejects.
Well where do you live?
Why the hell are you attacking me? Are you some kind of forest demon?
Right, now be a good demon and go back to hell.
Well that was fast.
Yay, now it's immobile! Despite that, it still can follow me outside its ball.
Shortly after that, we catch Caterpie.
Then, we enter Naragex Forest.
Ooh, I see a Paras! I'll catch it!
No kidding, the first random encounter.
Took two Pokéballs to catch. It had a TinyMushroom on it, though.
Caught a Rattata on the way back to heal Paras.
It also took two Pokéballs to catch. Seeing as I already have six, Rattata goes into the box, where it will stay.
Going back into the forest, we nail Shroomish and Pineco.
I always hated Shroomish, but that Pineco knew Protect at level 4.
And here's Petilil, another one I've never seen before.
Catching one after another... This is supposed to have every single Pokémon in it, so I'm going to need more Pokéballs soon...
Finally getting a moment of not catching new Pokémon, I see a cabin in the woods.
Old man and old woman inside.
I don't.
And of course there's no Nintendo event required to catch it!
Which would explain why all the "peaceful" Pokémon are attacking me on sight.
The other guy challenges me to a battle.
With a Lv.7 Rattata.
Which took out Bellsprout and Silcoon, and almost Starly. While paralyzed. Ouch.
He gave me a Great Ball for winning, though.
On the way back to Zarivar to heal them, I caught Hoothoot.
And on the way back to where I was, there's Kricketot.
Continuing on, as none of the people in the forest seem to want to fight, I find the first berries of the game.
Pecha and Oran, heals poison and 10HP respectively. I got 2 each, and planted one each.
Then I find a Hypno. Sadly, not a wild one.
Not sure if there's anything to do here. To the north of Hypno was Celebi's shrine, but there's nothing to do there.
But anyhow, I'm finally out of the forest and in Superior City.
And that's where I leave this off for now. Next is Superior City Gym, whose leader, according to one of the NPCs in the forest, uses Fighting-types.
Current team:
