Arguably he's already a progressive, just one in the style of an enlightened Kaiser.
I'm going to do the smart thing here and disengage. This isn't a hill I paticularly care to die on.

Take a can to eat quickly then shadow him in my duties to watch his back.

The darkness was eternal, all-powerful, unchangeable.
She had stared into it for to many years, alone and unblinking, determined that it would not take her.
Now it never would.
Now she was lighting a candle.

Eat a can of meat. Perform maintenance on my gear. Walk around. ((If it comes down to it, I can use my sword as a can opener. How do we gain XP for leveling up, other than shooting shmucks in the face, by the way?))

((Generally, you get a level after certain major plot events. Which mostly consist of kicking some asses, but not really always.))

((Sorry for absence. Graduation party. Now I'm back.))
Desert of the wild is an inland desert, though the climate is generally hotter due to specific conditions of it's geography. ((Think Nevada-Utah-wise))

Harry Baldman
Searching around  shows that the amount of food around is near to nothing. However, searching around turned out to be not a complete failure - you found an empty tin can in the sand. Skulking nearby, you found something more interesting and dreadful: that is a skeleton, half buried in sand. The sand moved by desert winds finished polishing of his bones recently. It looks like if it was shot in the back and fell on his front. He wore grey uniforms of prisoner. No weapons around him is found, no equipment as well. However, there is something thick in his pocket - it turns out to be a small, but thick envelope wrapped in some brown rag. The envelope is not sealed and there is no inscription on it. Inside, there is a letter written on a list of paper reminding patchwork - it looks glued from at least 16 pieces. It is folded several times to form the envelope.

Others
Meanwhile in the camp, people are filling themselves with canned food. Some like it hot, some preserve the fuel. Anyway, you all enjoy the meal while watching the sunset, looking forward to a pleasant night ride. Decimus spends his time by fixing something in his artificial leg - it is a bit rotten in the foot part. When he is satisfied with it's condition, he proceeds to cleaning his gun. And only after these procedures done, he grabs himself a can. The way he opens it is spectacular - he grabs it in an iron hand, holding it in a fist with his thumb on the top of the can, then pushes his thumb through the top until he tears the tin, then gets the can with the other hand and tears the tin top completely with his iron fingers, He doesn't pays much attention to his actions, like if he had done this plenty of times.
He keeps aside from the others, with his back against the truck.

Borkum, who was looking around in a search of the truck on which the girl was riding, sees a little figure approaching your camp. This figure turns out to be that very girl. ((She is approaching in hurry, running maybe, will be here in somewhere around twenty minutes.))

"Hahahah!" Kraka-Tarr says as he reads the letter, slowly turning his head to the sky before speaking more. "What a wonderful tale! It inspires me, it does! I shall preserve his innovative hobo-paper techniques for all time!"

Grab the skull of this fellow, as it will serve me well in the future! Perhaps its knowledge will seep into me, you never know.

Afterward, locate my comrades back at the camp.

- Before you start telling your fairy tales, figure who is approaching us.

It turns out that Decimus had already taken the machinegun from it's case and fixed it on board of your truck, pointing it at the direction from which the small figure is approaching, his can of food standing near him unfinished.

"Immediately, my liege!"

Eyeball that approaching figure, evaluating it for danger while keeping one hand on my trusty elf-bone shiv and the other on the club (though I mentally call it a truncheon for the sake of coolness) I was given.

"Looks like an elf by the stature. Does anyone have binoculars?"

Try to spot the chevrons or other identifiers, "if any".

- Catch.
Indeed, a pair of binoculars is thrown to you. You catch those and look at the figure.

An elf, a female, in rags, no visible weaponry. Looks like no threat.

"Female, at that. Probably not an ambush, there's not much concealment in this in this desert."

Return the binoculars.

- Fine. Let her come closer until we discover what is it she wants.

((If Helgoland doesn't post in half an hour, I'll continue without his action.))
