Yes, Chaos Magic, and it is wielded by the Gnomes of the Northern Wastes.
The spiders don't go there as they would rather not be turned into chickens and eaten.

Why have the gnomes done nothing to strike at the spiders?

The gnomes are too distracted by their technology and view the southerns as a wast of time.

What kind of culture do the humans have. How does this culture affect their society.

The human culture is an accepting culture, people are valued for their differences, not hated because of them. Their culture as a result is very open minded, which is one of the reasons the Orcs were welcomed as friends during the first time humans and Orcs met.

What part of the world do the Orcs live on? Further south? What is down there?

They live to the west of the human islands. The live in their great mountain harbors.

Do the spider/human beasts attack the humans on their islands.

The spider/human beasts have no way to reach the humans on their islands.

Are there any forms of entertainment in this world? If so, what are they?

Runic etching is an artform normally used for entertainment. Its origins, lost in time, come from the extinct race of elves, who could cast spells of great power with large complex patterns.

Dueling with wooden weapons is also a favored passtime.

Why did the Elves die?

They were killed off in a war with the gnomes.

Can the humans use the runes to perform magic?

The SpiderMind actually desires to find a way to feast on something other than souls, so they can coexist peacefully with the humans and orcs in order to learn their ways.

Are there any cities among the humans? If so, what are they focused on?

Cities exist amongst the isles mainly for religious activities or trade, usually both.

If the only species that exist are the half-spiders, orcs, humans and supposedly gnomes and dwarves, does most food come from systematic cannibalism/hunting spiders?

No, there are plenty of varied wild animals, fish, and fruits, we have been discussing sapient species.

What exotic otherworldly animals are there?

Pterodactyl-like flying reptiles that prey on half-spiders ignoring any other possible food.

Why their diet is so limited?

Because these Pterodactyl creatures sustain themselves off the souls that the half-spiders harvest.

What made them?

Pterodactyl were made by the Elves in an attempt to colonise the mainland. It didn't end well.

How do the orcs/humans organise themselves? Are they divided into tribes, nations, companies, etc?

The Orcs are organized into mercantile guilds. Everyone belongs to one however murder is strictly prohibited as a business tactic and if you bring down a rival guild financially you are required to clothe, feed, and house the members at no cost to them until they find a job.
Homelessness is illegal, if you find a homeless person, you are required to house, feed, and clothe them.

Humans use a similar system, except they are more along the lines of family groups. Family does not have to be biological, and many groups are based on similar interests. Both the Orcs and the Humans share a single government, all family and guilds are required to have at least one representative on a council at the Vihek Harbor Mountain, from there policies and laws are put into effect, majority votes are required, and no law is allowed to cause repression of any sort or strike down said anti repression law, in times of war, repression of the enemy is allowed until they submit.

What is the Gnome governmental system?
