"Hm.   That also would be suitable.  Blade against blade.  A much more suitable challenge than myself attempting to charge against a spearman with no allowances for strategia."

He glances at the group's leader, awaiting his suggestion.

"If you say so."
Branden draws his sword and waits for Vito to make his move.

Pelageya plopped down on the bench.
:"Anyone wanna make a bet here? ...My money's on Branden, sorry Vito!"

[SeriousConcentrate]

"I already won a bet, no need to get greedy!"

[Lucus Casius]

"Bet against me if you wish, but you will soon find your pockets empty."

He raises his sword once more, holding it delicately, the tip hovering at about shoulder height and pointed straight at Branden.

"Now..."

He darts forward, striking like a snake as he seeks to pierce their leader's defenses!

"Defend yourself!"

Vito's blade struck true, but Branden quickly retaliated with a attack of his own. Both swordsmen stood ready after the initial display of skill.

Vito took a step back, eying his opponent warily, stepping into a warding stance as he prepared for his opponent's next blow.

"Finely struck, condottieri.  But the match is hardly over, no?"

Vito was inclined to disagree.

As Branden swung, he saw his opening, dashing into the strike when other men might have darted away.  The condottieri's sword cut across the Trycordian's cheek, leaving the man exposed as Vito drove his shoulder into his opponent's chest, sending Branden crashing to the ground.

A flick of the young patrician's blade disarmed his sparring partner, and another quick flick brought the tip under the man's chin.

"Dead."

Then, smiling, he lowered his blade and offered the man his hand.

"But do not fear, signore, it was well fought."

"Now, I believe I owe una giovane donna dessert tonight, yes?"

"Well fought, Vito! And we decided on cake so everyone can have some."

[Kelsper]

Alastair whistled in surprise.
"A true strike, the same as mine. Some merit to be had, then?"

[Lucus Casius]

"You expected otherwise?  I am offended, Signor Murray."

"Still, yes, I suppose cake can cool my temper.  Even if I am the one forced to find some."

:"...Well! Now I'm glad I didn't land that bet, eheh! What is it with underdogs today!"

[Kelsper]

Alastair shook his head.
"Heh, of course. The maestro Vito Gaspari, indeed."

Vito rolled his eyes and laughed.

"Ahhhh, and now I am the target of insults!  Truly, I weep."

[Kelsper]

Alastair then joined in with laughter.
"Well, that makes two of us, then. Supposedly we were the underdogs; some cheek."
He shot a pretend death glance at Sadie and Pelageya.
