"Would Angel Carlson please report to Duel Arena 1? I repeat, would Angel Carlson report to Duel Arena 1?"
Angel skips to Duel Arena 1
"'Ello, gal. I'm your proctor for this exam...Ladies first."
"Alright! I'll start by playing Final Countdown, paying half my life points and starting a countdown to my victory!"
(Life-Point-reducing sounds. Angel is at 2000 Life Points.)
"Next, I'll play Grave Squirmer, a nice little guy, in defense mode!"
(Monster-Attack/Defense-reveal sounds.)
"Finally, I'll set one card and end my turn! Your move, sir!"
"Good job. Now then, draw! ...Hmm...very good, very good. First of all, I play Mystical Space Typhoon on that facedown! You won' have the 20 turns necessary to win, but facedowns are always pesky. Remember, never trust a facedown. Next, I'll play the Field Spell, Umi, and Summon the reliable Amphibious Bugroth MK-3."
(Monster-Attack/Defense-reveal sounds.)
"Unfortunately, Umi makes him loses 200 ATK, but it's worth it in exchange for the ability to attack you directly, wouldn't you agree? And now, Bugroth, attack her directly!"
"Not so fast! I Special Summon Battle Fader in defense mode, ending the battle phase before you can hurt me!"
(Monster-Attack/Defense-reveal sounds)
"...Good move, chap. I end my turn."
"First, I play Bio Plant in defense mode!"
(Monster-Attack/Defense-reveal sounds)
"Next, I'm going to play Nightmare's Steelcage to stop all attacks. I don't think your bugroth can attack me anymore. I end my turn."
(This wouldn't happen in the anime.)
"Very well. I draw. I'll set one card facedown, and I'll set one face-down monster. Your turn."
(Angel draws, looks at the card, and tries to hide a grin.)
"...Oh, what a worthless card! I end my turn."
"I'll draw. I'll set another monster facedown. Back to you."
(/notanimesque)
(Wait a sec. He had two facedown monsters.)
"With your turn ending, Nightmare's Steelcage is gone! And now I summon Evil Hero Malicious Edge in Attack Mode! Because you have monsters, I only need to tribute one monster of my own to summon him!"
(Malicious Edge lunges from Angel to impale the Battle Fader, which explodes.)
"Now--Evil Hero Malicious Edge, attack his Amphibious Bugroth Mk-3!"
(Malicious Edge lunges for the Proctor.)
"I don't think so. I'll activate my facedown, Gravity Bind! It prevents all monsters of higher level than four from even attempting to attack!"
(He crashes into the ground. The monster, not the Proctor.)
"...Drat. I guess...I end my turn."
"Good, good. I'll draw! Let's see... I'll play, A Legendary Ocean! This card is treated as Umi while on the field, but increases the ATK and DEF of all WATER monsters by 200--and it doesn't weaken Machines, meaning that my Bugroth is effectively gained 400 Attack Points! Now then, Bugroth, attack her directly!"
(Life-Point-reducing sound. Angel is down to 300 Life Points)
"I'll end my turn with this facedown."
(Angel looks at the cards in her hand and gets an idea.)
"First, I tribute my Bio Plant and Grave Squirmer to summon Chaos Hunter in defense mode. Next, I play Dark Fusion to combine Evil Hero Malicious Edge with Chaos Hunter to form Evil Hero Malicious Fiend in Attack Mode!"
"While I'm sure it is very nice to have such a powerful monster, you forget that my Bugroth can attack you directly. Bugroth, attack her directly for game!"
"Not so fast! Evil Hero Malicious Fiend's ability means that, whenever you have a Battle Phase, all of your monsters are flipped face-up into attack mode--and are forced to attack my Hero! This means that your Bugroth is history...as are that facedown and most of your Life Points!"
"...Bugger."
(Facedown monsters is revealed to be a Mother Grizzly. Both it and the Amphibious Bugroth attack Dark HERO Malicious Fiend, but are annihilated with a swipe of his claws.)
(Life-Point-reducing sound. The Proctor is also down to 300 Life Points.)
"Well then...Mother Grizzly's effect activates, allowing me to Special Summon another one!"
"Now I'll just set a card and end my turn."
"I'll draw. And...I'll play Umi! And I'll switch my Grizzly to Defence mode."
"You can't do that, Proctor. Like it or not, my Malicious Fiend switches all your monsters to Attack Mode during the Battle Phase before forcing them to attack--which can't be skipped, even if you don't want to declare any attacks."
(Mother Grizzly attacks Malicious Edge. The HERO glares at the grizzly, before red strips of its aura come off and whip around it, wrapping around the bear before it explodes. More go for the Proctor.)
"You've won, Angel. Back to the stands with you."
Two notes.
1. I'm willing to write up transcripts for other duels if requested.
2. I think we need a more formal way of keeping track of the field. Maybe the GM should use spoilers like so many of the players have been?
