"You did fight a monster that thinks it can kill gods to a stand still. I can't say many mortals have done the before."

"And it kicked our butts, if you didn't notice. Plus it's letting us go right now. Hard to feel rather proud or happy about that."

Aedan rolls his eyes.
"No, fucking, shit. Of course it beat you up, it was using a metal that has the sole property of being able to cut through anything and it was ripping it's body apart to boost itself to the point where it could actually defeat you."

"So you're just proving my point. If we stayed home and did nothing we probably would have accomplished just as much."

"Bullshit. You know what? You're right. Just stay home from now on if you're going to act like this. No one else needs you to make them feel bad about doing their best. I'm sure that you'll have a much better time as well, you pessimistic cock."

Thankfully Dalia can't really think up a come back, and so she lapses into a very annoyed and slightly embarrassed silence.

"Dalia is right. We won nothing, only lost."

Icarus is visibly depressed, even past the unblinking mask of the HYDRA-01

Walpurga waits until Belkelel and the train vanished entirely through another portal, then spoke up.

"Are you insane? Do you realise how big of a mistake zee enemy made today? So far we didn't even have zee faintest clue about what zey were doing. Now we have gained so much information. Zee desert, zee jungle, zee wall of stars, and all those other trains. And..the greyness. It's ingenious...I would have never though of zat."

"Uh... If you say so. Personally I still have no idea what they're up to. If it's that important, maybe you should tell the rest of us what it's all about."

 "That greyness, what was it?"

Bartimaeus marks off a stone tablet with a tally.

"Just a second."

Walpurga begins going through her suitcase, finaly pulling out a book. Botched Portals and magic mistakes, the 100 dos and the 1000s donts of magic.

"Here we go: "Zose who think zey should teleport without zee ABC- of teleportation safety should soon find themselves in a vast grey emptiness. While zis dimension has been refered to before as limbo, where zee souls eternaly wait to be seated, zis is entirely incorrect, as it is neither limbo, nor is it a dimension, to be exact. Only zee unluckiest of all teleporters manage to land in zis place, which has been assumed to be a remnant, a leftover from the creation of, well, creation. Zee hallways zee celestial janitors took to clean up zee messes. And beware, even fewer ever make it out back alife. As zis is a place zat holds neither zee mana of creation, nor zee energies from its dark counter part (compare to chapter 8) , only those who can muster a class B phase shift with zee energy zey have remaining after zeit mishap can make it, and even zen only with an anchor, as described in step one of teleportation preparation. As a result, zis place is hardly documented, as among zee few who have such obscure knowledge, is refered to as "Transit". Where everything passes through but nothing actually goes to."

"So... when anything teleports, it goes through Transits? Even souls?"

"Yes. And zat probably explains what we saw in zere, zis huge magic circle. It is a soul catcher. Zey are harvesting souls on a grand scale. Souls going out, but perhaps also going in. Zat would mean no souls reach afterlife, nobody gets reincarnated, and babies born in zis time might even be soul-less. Zis is a terrifying thought. It messes with zee balance of the cosmos on a grand scale."

Winry attempts to find hydrogen, from somewhere like a hydroxide welder, and creates a machine that synthesizes pure water.

Hilda nods slowly.
"What happened back there? Why do I feel different?"

[15], Winry merely delays the thirst by another 2 turns, until she actually can get supplies done...mana now at 1/2. In doing so she also takes a lot of oxygen out of the air, making the air thin, increasing the chance of future complications.

"I don't know."

Walpurga shrugs. Icarus just mopes around.
