Alice smiled at Kaiser as he came back with the Morphine
"Thank you, I don't really need it though I've already numbed his pain with magic."

"Supplements? What are they?"

"They are to help bring his iron levels back up to normal"

"Then why the iron?"

"To see if it would help, I  still like non meat food but ever since my dragon side woke up, well I was willing to try some things to see if I could, I couldn't"

"What, can't even keep that stuff down in human form?"

"I still don't understand why she needs to eat metal pills."

[wolfchild]

"Nope, and garret they are only a little iron, about the same amount as you would get from eating red meat"

[Akroma]

"Long story short, blood contains iron, getting more iron is good to replace your blood."

[smurfingtonthethird]

Garrett is very confused.

"So, iron is pretty much in everything, then?"

[Akroma]

"Well, mostly in blood."

[wolfchild]

"Ok garret you know how you need to breathe?  Well that is because you need something from the air, and the iron is what your blood uses to carry that"

"So it's... a delivery system, then? That uses rust? Because both things are red, and I'm probably saying something stupid."

[Akroma]

"Kinda like that, yes, except the iron is bound in a porphirine structre."

[wolfchild]

"Actually no, just an oversimplication of the facts, rust IS iron that has been oxidized, it's scientific name is iron oxide and that is sort of what happens in blood, juts the iron is held in place by the rest of the blood"

[Akroma]

"Oh, I know!"

Icarus quickly gets to the library (conveniently just down the street) and gets Garret a simple chemistry book....aalso a book that teaches children to read.

Spensir chose this moment to speak up.

"Eh, basically. You know your veins an' whatnot on your wrists? How they're blue? That's the unoxygenated blood. Turns red when you get cut, cuz' the oxygen in the air hits it and bonds. But yeah, blood is red because of rust, essentially."

It was easy to forget, sometimes, even for Spensir(as no one else had any reason to know), thar he had been in college and studying for what were typically thought of as rather difficult subjects to get masteries in before all this crazy stuff had happened.
