Actually, you should stop calling him a tank.
It makes you assume things which aren't true.

It's not in character for him to taunt with 100% likelihood of success, if at all.

Though when it comes to usefulness, Jade is a guy who got cursed, not a swordsman or soldier, or anything like that.
He's supposed to become useful.

Well, his parents wanted to have him be important to more than one country, and gave him an English first name. It's just that they named him after the color of his eyes.
That, and they didn't know how feminine the name sounded in English, as they pretty much never spoke it.
