Yui Hanzo, a pop idol that only recently began dabbling in magic, but quickly became japans number one magical girl, despite her magic being so basic that basicaly any really competend magic user could probably outcast her. All she has going for her is a fair bit of versatility, good magic potential and the cheers of the crowd...Witt the season one of her series, wherein she fights evil live in front of the camera (huge hit with otakus worldwide), a second season is planned, far away from japan. Perk: Magic: Variable magic talent. Yui is able to learn magic from books and lessons, which considering how many people just have a singular magic ability and struggle much with any other magic, is quite rare, and worth a perk in my opinion.
Equipment:
Yui, besides many elaborate costumes and accesoires to pander to many different crowds (and the skill to change them very quickly too boot), carries various magical books, from which she can cast a plethora of spells. "Beginner combat magic.", "Summoning 101" and "Utility magic for dummies". They are as basic as they sound, and can be found in many stores and online. She did however wrap them in old looking leather with mysterious symbols on them, to hide that.
Ability: The spotlight.
Here comes the bread and butter to Yui, her actual ability. Yui draws her power directly from the attention and the wishes of the crowd. Anyone watching in anticipation in front of the TV, any facebook likes and re-tweets, any kinf of attention she gets, she gets stronger for it. This basicaly means that a beginner level fireball may yet turn out to be a searing inferno, a measly summon may yet become a final fantasy level powerhouse, complete with 3 minutes of non-skipable cinematic, and a heal that would just heal a bruise normaly might bring someone back from the brink of death. The full extend of this is always in the hand of the crowd, that is to say, Smurf (or if he is not there, the current GM of that plot) (though keep in mind, she has a fanbase already and a familiar that keeps her life on TV. At least level 1 of that ability is easily reached in no time). The exact nature of what is strongest at what moment can depend on the emotions of the crowd, for example a crowd pumped for a fight, or very angry at the enemy would increase her offensive capabilities, while them being afraid helps with defensive manouvers or even create a passive healing and mana refilling effect, if the crowd is hoping for a triumphal turn-around, while Yui not being in the spotlight, but being around another player that does a lot of awesome stuff (and in return, draws attention to the show as a whole, giving Yui indirect attention), would increase summoning and(/or buffing capabilities. Similar things can happen with mishief, but beware of boredom. A crowd that is bored may have negative effects.
What this basicaly means is that Yui scales differently from other characters. Her spells if she has no attention whatsoever are locked at negliable acts. But when the attention rises, so does she, and by leaps and bounds. Where normal small acts have 20% effectiveness, she already works at 25%, where medium works at 40%, she goes to 55%, the 60% of a big act can already spiral to 85%, 80% becomes 115%, the 100% becomes a full blown 145%, and it goes on and on. What this means for utility spells is at the GMs discretion. At what point those become avaiable depends on the GM, though I must remind here that this does not mean "if the GM is entertained". Fights and plots that drag on for us for weeks and turn into a number crunch only take minutes and are quite action packed for the average viewer.
Passively, even if Yui has no attention stacks buffing her, this ability makes any magic she casts look much more elaborate and dramatic than it actually is.
